Demonizing the Defenders (CIA)
Washington Times ^ | August 29, 2009 | Clifford D. May

Posted on 08/29/2009 6:26:50 AM PDT by kellynla

During the 1990s, most of us thought we were living in a period of unprecedented peace and prosperity. We even spent the "peace dividend" -- cutting resources for intelligence and the military. The Cold War was over. We had no enemies worth worrying about. That was the accepted narrative of that giddy era.

The fact that Americans were being attacked with regularity by Islamist terrorists -- for example, in New York City in 1993, at Khobar Towers in 1996, at two of our embassies in Africa in 1998, off the coast of Yemen in 2000 -- did not lead most politicians to conclude there was a crisis that needed to be addressed. As a result, the catastrophic attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, came as a shock and a surprise.

In the wake of Sept. 11, it was obvious we faced a national security crisis -- that a war was being waged against America and the West. Extensive anti-terrorism policies were implemented in response. Terrorists were hunted down and killed. Others were captured and interrogated. In a few cases, "enhanced interrogation techniques" were authorized to coerce them to reveal what they knew about terrorist attacks planned but not yet carried out.

Even so, most experts predicted that further assaults on Americans would not be long in coming. Curiously, the same people who are now quick to credit President Obama's stimulus spending with averting a second Great Depression say they doubt whether there is any correlation between the anti-terrorist policies of the Bush administration and the homeland security we've enjoyed over the eight years since their implementation.

The CIA is our friend. Along with our military, it stands between us and our enemies. The CIA is the reason we sleep comfortably at night.
The actions against it by the Obama socialist government is nothing short of treason against our country.

This CIA fiasco is a blunder of immense proportions by Obama. If you are trying to run a revolution, the last people you want to irritate is the intelligence apparatus. It’s sort of like failing your Intro To Dictator 101 class your freshman year.

Ditto..... I want to know more about Leon Panetta. He was supposed to be on the brink of resignation the other day. Guess they must have bribed or threatened him to stay?

Perhaps the CIA was thinking of investigating some of the folks that Obama selected to act as Czars?

My gut tells me that after four years of Hussein, if he lasts that long, and the rest of the Lefties in Congress; the Democrat party will cease to be a national party.

Sure they will be able to get politicians elected and reelected in local and maybe even state elections BUT with all these Socialist/Communist/Marxist programs that they keep trying to shove down our throats, the Majority of Americans are going to regurgitate this Leftist propaganda and end this Communist wave on a national level...and do so starting 11/2010!

Who would replace the Democrats on the socialist-end of the ideological spectrum? A new political party, perhaps? An out-an-out Marxist Party? If the Democrat Party were to implode, something would have to fill the vacuum I would think.

The result of Obama’s witch hunt in the CIA and his appearance of weakness will be another 9/11 sized attack on the US, I fear with a weapon of mass destruction.

I expect that within 20 years you’ll have the Conservatives represented by the “R” and the Conservatives Lite represented by the “D”

I hope that you’re right, but I just don’t see a wholesale ideological shift to the Right. But then I tend to be pessimistic about these things.

I wouldn’t say “wholesale”...like I said “20 years”...
the majority of Americans describe themselves as “conservative” today...
but I do see more and more Americans moving to the right...
