U.S. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy went to his deathbed looking forward to a reunion with his assassinated brothers - certain he could proudly tell them he had continued their legacy through the president who will deliver his eulogy today, U.S. Rep. William Delahunt told the Herald yesterday.
In a dramatic conversation with Delahunt, the ailing Kennedy talked about a reunion with his brothers, and Im confident he could say, I did it. I carried the torch, said Delahunt. From Jack to Bobby to the Obama moment, Teddy really was the bridge. He carried the torch and never wavered.
The conversation is a rare glimpse inside Kennedys thoughts as he made peace with his life and prepared for his passing.
The dramatic and deeply personal presidential eulogy expected today at Kennedys Mass on Mission Hill speaks to the close bond that developed between Obama and Kennedy after the senior senator made his unexpected endorsement in January 2008.
(Kennedy) saw in (Obama) much of himself. He knew there was something special in this individual, said Delahunt, another early Obama supporter.
The endorsement was as much of a surprise to Obama as it was to anyone else, said longtime Kennedy friend Phil Johnston.
I think for Obama it was a transformative moment on the campaign, said Johnston. Im certain it infused the Obama camp with tremendous energy and enthusiasm, and as long as Barack Obama lives hell feel he owes a great debt to Ted Kennedy.

This is extremely sad commentary on Kennedy specifically, and liberalism in general. It shows clearly, that he/they believe the path to perfection is through public policy, not personal spiritual growth. They are truly building a tower of Babylon, to reach to heaven.
Many people talk about God and salvation when facing death.
It appears that Senator Kennedy believes in some type of spiritual relay in which the baton was passed to him by his brothers and now Senator Kennedy passed it on to Obama.
The only logical explanation is that Edward Kennedy was the Avatar and his job was to restore balance and save the world.
I was wondering is Chalbot French for Clinton?
Oh, he’s going to reunit with JFK and RFK alright.
Bobby, JFK, Teddy, Mary Meyer, Mary Jo Kopechne, and Marilyn Monroe - together again
good times up there in the Kennedy vision of heaven
Teddy and Obama are two peas in the same pod.
America hating, elitist hypocrites.
from WikiPedia: Torch Song Trilogy is a collection of three plays by Harvey Fierstein rendered in three acts: International Stud, Fugue in a Nursery, and Widows and Children First!
Brother Buraq is going to have to bring Vera Baker back to DC if he wants to carry on the Kennedy legacy
I’m blowing chunks here...
Ted was a DISGRACE of a man and legislator compared to his brothers(who weren’t exactly stellar themselves).
But to say that obama is ‘carrying on the family legacy’??? Oh brother, here comes another bucket load......uuurrrrrrrrrPPPPP!!!!
Joe Kennedy died in uniform as the 9th test pilot on a thing called the Aphrodite Mission. My dad was co pilot on the 11th test run. According to my dad, Joe was the one being groomed for the Presidency.
If Teddy is looking for a reunion that would mean JFK and Bobby went to hell too.
“I bet Mary Jo will be waiting for him.”
-With a nail ridden billy-club.
Family legacy? The Kennedys are of Kenyan ancestry too? Who knew?
I’ll wager that there were one or two deathbed jokes about Mary Jo as well.Hey,they didn’t call him the “runt of the litter” for nothing.
What that worthless piece of excrement failed to acknowledge on his deathbed was that, were he alive today, his brother Jack would be a Republican.
Naaahhh....she'll be there to watch as Teddy is cast down. And she'll laugh. And laugh some more.
That damn near sent coffee outta my nose!
I sense another Wellstone funerally coming up. I hope, I hope.
You’re right. I just got a kick out of the visual of that one...
You are right on the mark here:
