Well, this kind of calls for an introspection of what “The Mother Church of all Christianity” is all about. Roman Catholicism, IMHO (because, incidentally, I’m not one), teaches that we are all sinners (mortal and venial) but it also teaches that there is forgiveness with repentance. So, who among us really knows about the fate of Ted’s soul? That is a matter between him and Christ.

We can not direct where he goes after death, though some would like to. God can judge him on his spiritual condition in the hereafter, we can and shall evaluate him on his temporal acts in this world. Just like Dante did with the villains of his time in the Inferno.
Then, when we die, God can judge us. If Ted Kennedy has indeed repented before he died, I would expect he would be spending a serious period in purgatory. Nevertheless, what we do and say will not affect God's final judgment re Teddy.
