Small, small world. I grew up in Tampa and my brother went to UT. I read TBO online and did see that story. Just a mixed up world anymore. Almost nowhere to get away from it.

I am not implying a connection. But this made me realize that Virginia Tech is the school that enabled and catered to Michael Vick and his brother. At least their football team seems to have more than a few thugs. It is also the school that admitted and passed that Korean guy who killed all those people. I saw some of his writing. Unbelievable that the English Dept. would pass him. It must be filled with morons.

Did you see Michelle Obama's senior thesis at Princeton?

Mis-spellings, incorrect punctuation, poor syntax, incoherent sentences. Nothing more than an ill-thought out rant, really. It was about the "black experience" at white Princeton, by the way. And, guess what, whitey mis-treated blacks! Even the liberal professors and administration...!

Virginia Tech's English Dept probably isn't any worse than Princeton's.

It’s a fairly obscure bucolic place in the National Forest. I have been there with Scout troops. It can be a pretty wild place at times. Being a Wednesday night, I doubt it was busy. Weekends tend to pack it with campers from VT enjoying some partying.

Still, you are in the mountains. You have to protect yourself. I carry a gun when I hike because of critters including people. Note: I live on the edge of this National Forest. Everything is loaded now.

Thank you both. He had recently returned from a summer missions trip to China. She was the home-schooled daughter of a Virginia State trooper. And I downloaded the Virginia Tech alert system to my desktop.

Do you have a large, loud, barking dog? Are all the outside spot lights turned on?

No, I have cats. Crime is not usually an issue here.

“And I downloaded the Virginia Tech alert system to my desktop.”

It will make noise for a month or so. Then the students will complain because their parents call them about it and it will go silent.

The Richmond paper’s article with quotes from her father

It says there’s a prayer page on Facebook but I couldn’t find it.

"I used to think demons were a metaphor."

Christ believed in demons. I don't presume to know better than Him.

Whats with Va Tech and the murders of students there? Spirit of death hanging over the campus? Time to cast out some demons.....

Eerily reminiscent of Gainesville 1989. I just hope we don't have another Danny Rolling on our hands.

Police continue investigation into Virginia Tech students' deaths; Drillfield memorial held to honor Childs and Metzler

UPDATED: Friday, Aug. 28, 2009 | 4:38 p.m.

Virginia Tech students who knew David Metzler and Heidi Childs are heartbroken by their deaths and remember the couple as caring people who were committed to their faith in Christ, said Jeff Highfield, director of Campus Crusade for Christ at Tech on Friday afternoon.

About 100 people attended an impromptu, student-led memorial service for Metzler and Childs on Friday afternoon outside the War Memorial Chapel on the Drillfield.

Highfield said both of the students were involved in the Campus Crusade for Christ ministry and most of the students at the memorial are also in the organization.

"They're still somber, sad and grieving the loss of their friends," he said about the crowd.

The 45-minute gathering included prayers and singing, including the hymn "It Is Well with My Soul," and some sharing of stories about Metzler and Childs, said Highfield, who attended the service.

"They were great, sweet, kind, loving and caring. Both of them loved Jesus deeply," he said about the two students. "They're just loved by a lot of people."

Highfield said he knew Metzler and had met Childs. Metzler was a leader of a small group Bible study for freshmen this year.

Highfield said the two students were known for living out their faith in Christ, and people looked up to them. "We can grieve because we miss our friends but we know that they're with Jesus," he said.
