Hope and change that's here to stay

Posted on 08/27/2009 3:47:56 PM PDT by texaschick

Something came to my mind today. Rush mentioned today that the people who are going to the health care debates are very informed about what's going on and able to ask intelligent questions. Because of the internet and talk radio people are more informed than they used to be. Not too long ago people would go to a meeting with their elected representative and just go along with whatever they said not really caring or understanding what they were talking about, trusting government to do what's right. The change that has happened is not what Obama had in mind. This, the real hope and change, has taken the Obama administration by surprise, I think they thought they could just walk right thru a health care bill or any other thing they wanted to do. The change is that they can't hide things from us anymore and we will voice our opinion. We want both parties to understand that change has surely come and we are not so trusting in government anymore. You bet things have changed.......we are armed with knowledge and we are watchful. This hope and change is a good thing.

You are absolutely right. Great points you made.

The change Obama didn’t expect.

Now all we have to do is figure out how to keep it going and expanding. The days where we can trust government, trust that they took an Oath to The Constitution, didn’t they, well now we know that it is just so much bull crap.

For too long the American people have had rulers, it’s high time we reintroduced our representatives to the people they allegedly represent. America is not ruled, it is governed by the consent of the governed.

Very true and we need to continue to educate ourselves and refine our questions so they can't as easily be dismissed with soundbite brush offs.

Be careful of things that get passed to you in e-mails. One instance of that is the supposed Senate bill SB-2099 which is supposed to require you to list your firearms on your tax return. There is no such bill nor any other bill that has that in it. I suspect this to be put out by the left to incite someone to make a fool of themselves in public about it.

Another one going around has so-called quotes of 0bama saying some over the top things about veterans in regards to why he thinks they should pay for their own insurance for combat injuries. It is true that he tried to require that, then dropped it, backin Jan. or Feb. But the quotes were taken from a satire site like the Onion or something. He never said them.

In short; double check any info you get before getting worked up about it. Advice most FReepers don't need but there is bad info out there and it's probably being fed to us from the left intentionally.

You are both right on. The problem we face is not just complacency or lack of knowledge. Many folks are so busy with their jobs and raising their families that it is difficult to invest the time and effort to stay informed and “fired up”

Hopefully the Internet (particularly FreeRepublic) will help get the info efficiently. Zeal will be more difficult to maintain. The left will probably return to the more incremental and less obvious tactics of the past

We must remain diligent.

Finding the time to Oppose tyrany is something everyone must do despite the demands of everyday living. Imagine if the Continental Army said “Hey, Georege, we’ve got to go home to plant our crops this Spring.’ OOps, they DID say and do just that - Washington damn near gave up when they left to do just that - study your history. Not much has changed. But what happened over 200 years ago was that those same soldiers soon realized that there are no excuses for failing to fight tyrany - what good was it to plant your crops when the King’s army came by in August and took what they wanted - leaving nothing to the “peasants” who farmed it. Same today -only now it’s the Gov’t. Screw the soccer gmes and ballet lessons - use that time to REAM Wash.

Remember in order to vote them out we have to be able to get to the polls. obammy’s acorn thugs may make that difficult. Let the fight begin.
