Racing, new book keep Joe Gibbs too busy for NFL

While Gibbs, who is 68, devotes most of his time to racing, he recently completed work on a book that he is promoting. It’s called Game Plan for Life, and it’s more than a book for Gibbs.

"It’s the most important message that I can give anyone," he said. "And it’s something that I want to do the rest of my life."

Gibbs, who — like Tom Landry — has always been open about his Christian faith, hired a research firm to determine the greatest personal challenges for men — or as he put it, the "average Joe." Eleven topics were identified, and Gibbs had professional scholars write sections on each of those issues.

Gibbs said that when he has spoken in the past about his faith, he has attempted at times to hand out Bibles. But that usually resulted in three types of reactions: people saying the Bible was 2,000 years old and not relevant, that it was too thick or that the language was arcane and intimidating.

"We try to address all three of those things with this project," Gibbs said. "It’s something I’m really excited about and basically, I think it’s a game plan for life."

I posted last month about my excitement to read Gibbs's new book, Game Plan for Life. I wasn't disappointed. While Gibbs's book is weaved nicely through the book, it is really so much more. Now, if you aren't a Christian this book may not be for you because the Christian content is heavy, but if you are a Christian or seeker I couldn't recommend it more. It is a fantastic book. It was also great to see him on Hannity and listen to him on Levin.

I thought Gibbs seldom went to the track anymore. As an owner it certainly isn’t required.

From what I’ve heard, people have tried to talk him out of going to the track but that he ends up going to the Sprint series race nearly every time they run.

I know he used to be very visible at the track but I haven’t seen an interview with him for a few years.

A good man who does a good job of dealing with some big egos.

I know he was definitely in Bristol on Saturday when Kyle Busch won.

Bush is one of those big egos but he seems to have settled. Personally Mark Martin is my favorite. They ran a good clean race together to the finish.

Mark Martin’s a class act. I’ve never been a huge NASCAR fan but it’s growing on me a bit. The race from Bristol is really a lot of fun to watch.

As you probably know, Denny Hamlin, one of Gibbs’s three drivers along with Lagano and Busch, is really having a solid season.
