Whatever his other weaknesses, if John McCain were Ted Kennedy, Mary Jo Kopechne today would be a grandmother, whose fading memory of the summer of 1969 would be no different than that of any other young lady who married, led a productive life, outlived her parents and grew old surrounded by the family she loved.

Nah. Kennedy was a committed, hardcore, dyed-in-the-wool leftist. McCain is a spongy opportunist constantly on the hunt for media praise.
The more time goes on, it’s actually a blessing in disguise McCain wasn’t elected. As his stances on immigration, cap-and-trade, etc are essentially indistinguishable from 0bama’s, I think he’d have been a disaster, dragging down Sarah with him. With McCain out of the running for POTUS, Sarah can chart her own path.
