New Republic: TV Networks Should Treat Town Hall Protesters Like Unruly Sports Fans
NewsBusters ^ | August 27, 2009 | P.J. Gladnick

ObamaCare supporter Anthony Wright has a suggestion for TV networks in their coverage of the town hall protests: treat the protesters the way ESPN covers unruly sports fans. In other words, avoid pointing the cameras at them. Here are some of Wright's thoughts about censoring the town hall protesters published in The New Republic:

The Fox network has done more than any other network to showcase the protesters at health care town halls. And the coverage has been a lot like Fox’s reality shows: The more outrageous, the more likely you’ll end up on TV or YouTube. A sign referencing Nazis will get you on the local news. Shouting in a Senator’s face gets an radio interview afterwards. Bring a gun, and you get your full interview on a cable news program. After the first gun-toter made the rounds, the question wasn’t why there was a dozen folks packing outside the next presidential event, but why weren’t there more?

So much for toleration of diversity of opinion. Just shut down contrary thought as if the protesters are just a bunch of unruly sports fans.

Another czar?

Now there is what 47?

They want to control the media?

Guess what?

We are in deeeeep shit!

Time to face up to the facts! They are already running a PARALLEL GOVERNMENT. Next step is a crisis and they shift the power of the military from the senate to the czars. Then the people are S*C*R*E*W*E*D!

They will collect the guns and its over.

Tyranny is well under way. So is poverty and the death of the late great US of A. Everyone will have an equal nothing.

Anthony Wright needs a cup of herbal tea, some bean sprouts and a big cushy chair next to a roaring fire with a copy of the constitution so he can read stuff about free speech.

I don't suppose it'll do any good, but I'll point out that at a sporting event, the fans are not part of the game, and streakers/whatnot don't affect the game, and don't need to be shown.

At political events, the "fans" ARE part of the game.

We are only in deeep shit if we allow ourselves to be. Remember the military when they say “Do or Die”. We can sit back and say “We are loosing our country”, “What are we going to do?”.......or we can say “We will take this country back, do or die”. Get out of the frame of mind that our country is lost. These people in Washington have to be made to realize that “We will take our country back”. It may hurt for awhile but by dam they will not take it away from us. Shut these people down now. They are nothing but a bunch of cowards and cannot stand against Americans that love this country and we are not giving it to any of them.

This is an anachronistic idiot.

With the internet (youtube, facebook, tangle etc, etc.) you CANNOT censor what is happening ANYWHERE. If you had EVERY network stop showing every second of every meeting it would only serve to please the over the hill, chairbound hippies that watch that crap.

The rest of life has long since moved on from the television. I get my internet, RSS feeds, facebook invites and youtube videos on my phone. Why go stationary and waste my time having to filter through what some dimwitted producer wants to have said?

Nitwit.

At a sporting event, the game is the topic and the unruly fans truly are a distraction that should be ignored... well, maybe if the fans had legitimate cause to protest the game because the officials and the press were biased and started a ruckus when the refs turn their back on obvious fouls because their favored team committed them then the fans might be the topic of the news.

On the other hand the citizens at the town hall including the protesters and their interaction with their elected officials are the news. Maybe the press could make the editorial decision that one or two LaRouchites weren't representative of the crowd and could be ignored. But if they start deciding to ignore the majority of the general public (as opposed to SEIU goons or ACORN members secretly given the only supply of tickets), then the press is forfeiting any presumption of neutrality.

Which brings me back to an earlier question.

Do we hang the State Run Media Whores before or after we hang the Politicians?

Show only the placid and happy comrades. Dissent is unseemly and soon to be illegal.

Dims have NO tolerance for anyone who does not agree with them. After all, they are the smart ones who know what is best for those pesky protestors.

Their hypocrisy knows no end. How long have they been against smoking? Who is smoking in the WH?

Thomas Jefferson would be utterly disgusted with the turn of events in our country at present in regard to the federal government and national media.
There can be absolutely no doubt he would find Obama repulsive as well as unqualified for his current position.

Thats true, but at this point, I think there are too many unaware sheeple. They need an awareness before they can contemplate acting..... and the greater problem is Obama and his marxist buddies are already down the road, way down the road in their program.

Impeachment is required for this man who took oath to uphold the constitution.... not screw it!

Not to the left. To the left, the people are just pieces of furniture that happen to breathe and need the government’s good graces to continue to breathe and for anything good in their lives.

I guess it sounds like they think government is God.

New Republic:

A magazine that Charles Krauthammer, Fred Barnes, PJ O’Rourke all wrote for once and who back in the 80s had some works by William Kristol too

hence you wonder how the GOP beltway is so fubar
