Cardinal Mahony calls Kennedy a champion of the powerless August 26, 2009
Cardinal Roger Mahony issued a statement today calling the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.) a champion of "the voiceless, the powerless and the most needy of our citizens."
Mahony recalled how the two worked together after the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act was introduced in 2007.
Kennedy "was keenly aware of the plight of immigrant peoples in our nation and was an advocate for their rights and their full inclusion into the culture and economy of our country."
Mahony was one of several prominent California figures to issue statements about the death of Kennedy on Tuesday night.
"Even though he lived in the far northeast corner of our country, he had a deep and personal sense of the needs of the poorest across the land," Mahony said. "He never tired in speaking up for them and their rights and needs."
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger issued a statement Tuesday night that said he and his wife were "saddened by the passing of Uncle Teddy."
Mahony said in his statement: "He was known to the world as the Lion of the Senate, a champion of social justice, and a political icon. Teddy taught us all that public service isn't a hobby or even an occupation, but a way of life and his legacy will live on."

Mahony: it figures
FYI I think somebody on the inside need a few WORDS of truth, he is not helping the image.
And you, Your Excellency, are a champion of the uninformed and un-catechized.
Fat Teddy Kennedy didn't give a rats arse about the unborn and made sure women had an easier time killing off their children.
Paging Pope Benedict.
Time to implement that “Enforcer” reputation.
WAY, past time, actually.....
Mahony is the KING of the aholes.
When I lived in California, this piece of pond scum was urging people to vote for democrats.
A piece of garbage who should have been booted out of the church years ago.
"If she had lived, Mary Jo Kopechne would be 62 years old. Through his tireless work as a legislator, Edward Kennedy would have brought comfort to her in her old age."
Toooo little toooo late, and to say anything about the reality of the situation automatically gets one branded/marked a 'hater' or without class as this nation get the religious sell out into socialism. A 'lion' in the Senate and a 'woman' in a red dress in the House of Representatives both would get a pass before my commoner unlearned 'soul'.
And moving to different parishes pedophile priests - don’t forget that. It’s all this bs from the Catholic Church that I absolutely cannot abide. I’m having a hard time with this punk/puke and Cardinal Law not being defrocked (or whatever the term is).
And for anybody thinking of telling me a couple of things about the notion of forgiveness, spare me.
That has always puzzled me. Just how is it Teddy got out of the car and Mary Jo couldn’t? If he opened a door and got out, why not pull her out as well? If he had time to do that, why not her? How deep was the water at that location? Even though it was nighttime, he could have felt around the car for her. There’s just so much room in a car. So many obvious questions. Of course, it appears that he wanted her to drown. Something must have happened that he wanted covered up. Well it is covered up, with six feet of dirt.
It is not as though a single actual Catholic regards Roger Cardinal McPhony as a Catholic. He is one of the last surviving AmChurch prelates in a major see in the US. He has about 5 years to go, at most, and he was one of JP II’s absolute worst mistakes in appointments in the US. He is as bad as Ted Kennedy but worse because he is a priest and an archbishop. St. John Chrysostom once observed that the floors of hell are paved with the skulls of bishops. McPhony should ponder that while there is still time.
Well, it' seems that when you paint a spade crimson you can't call a fetus a fetus.

if he does not seek the face of the L-rd and turn away from his evil ways. Brother Rodger will be getting the same just desserts as Ted,
shalom b'SHEM Yah'shua HaMashiach
Bingo. Mahony appeared all so crestfallen in published pics of him soon after the election of Benedict XVI. This guy’s $200 m Cathedral in Los Angeles has been dubbed as an “architectural monstrosity” that trashes the rich patrimony and traditions of the Church. He needs to be promptly removed from office. It’s the LA Hispanics and Hollywood elites who are his main constituents.
IMO, this statement is much worse than Notre Dame’s President inviting 0bama to give the commencement address. Cardinal Mahony’s superior is Pope Benedict XVI. His statement is completely contrary to the teachings of the Church and only adds confusion and scandal to the ‘flock’ that the good Cardinal is supposed to shepherd. I do hope that Pope Benedict XVI takes Mahony to the woodshed over this.
“He needs to be promptly removed from office.”

One of the beauties of the much-maligned Catholic heirarchy, is that there is ONE man with the absolute, unquestioned authority to do just that.
Kennedy was a champion of the unborn?
Who knew?
If it is consistent with Your plan, please see to the sale of the new and essentially pagan cathedral there to be a warehouse or something more suitable.
God's plan must be better than yours or mine. Any delay simply suggests that Los Angeles needs more punishment before a Catholic can become archbishop there.
netmilsmom: God bless you and yours!
Champion of the powerless. Except, of course, those powerless still in the womb, on their way out of the womb, or at the bottom of the bay in cars.
He was more likely a champion for Haig & Haig’s bottom line, and for sandwich-loving waitresses in DC.
Where was powerless Mary Jo’s champion?
