Cardinal Mahony calls Kennedy a champion of the powerless August 26, 2009

Cardinal Roger Mahony issued a statement today calling the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.) a champion of "the voiceless, the powerless and the most needy of our citizens."

Mahony recalled how the two worked together after the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act was introduced in 2007.

Kennedy "was keenly aware of the plight of immigrant peoples in our nation and was an advocate for their rights and their full inclusion into the culture and economy of our country."

Mahony was one of several prominent California figures to issue statements about the death of Kennedy on Tuesday night.

"Even though he lived in the far northeast corner of our country, he had a deep and personal sense of the needs of the poorest across the land," Mahony said. "He never tired in speaking up for them and their rights and needs."

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger issued a statement Tuesday night that said he and his wife were "saddened by the passing of Uncle Teddy."

Mahony said in his statement: "He was known to the world as the Lion of the Senate, a champion of social justice, and a political icon. Teddy taught us all that public service isn't a hobby or even an occupation, but a way of life and his legacy will live on."

Interesting comment at this site:

In his encyclical “Penance and Reconciliation,” Pope John Paul II listed a great many ways in which people participate in “social sin” through their own personal sins. One of those was “the conspiracy of silence.”

Cardinal Mahony’s obscene praise for the mass-murderer and demagogue Edward Kennedy is a perfect example of “the conspiracy of silence.”

Who is more powerless and innocent than the child in the womb? FIFTY MILLION murders of babies in the womb were, for Edward Kennedy, NOT ENOUGH. A hundred million MORE murders would not have been enough to satisfy the demonic pride and lust for power of Edward Kennedy. He literally defended the “right” to murder babies to his dying day.

One of history’s greatest monsters has assumed room temperature. Today is a day for unbridled thanksgiving and rejoicing, especially for Catholics. We should also seriously examine our consciences, asking: How morally sick is the Catholic Church in America that we have tolerated several generations of bishops, and several generations of Catholic voters, who did not recognize the Kennedys—Edward Kennedy above all—as a scourge upon the Catholic Church and the United States?

Cardinal Mahony embodies the moral and intellectual putrefaction that has made the bishops, as a body, more akin to a festering, pus-spewing abscess in the Church than the secure foundation it should be.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

The voices of the innocent aborted are crying for vengeance. Shame on Mahoney and Kennedy.

Well, we shall soon see. Will there be a very quiet mass in a small chapel for the comfort of the family and Sen. Kennedy's soul, or will there be an extravaganza with armies of red cloaked bishops and cardinals in attendance.

We shall soon see of what stuff the Catholic Church is made.
