In the short term at least, that's one less Senate vote for ObamaCare :)
Sounds like someone needs to challenge any attempt to appoint a successor early! Tie it up in court until Christmas.

Here's my idea to replace all liberal pols. Since they're guaranteed to vote against America and common sense we should replace them with computers. The computer will have a program filled with liberal talking points since that's all they spew anyway. It can be programmed to vote yes on all leftist bills.

Mitt Romney came within a few votes of knocking Kennedy out of the senate. This might be an easy pick up if he ran again.

If the original constitution was followed (direct election of Senators is a recent addition), there would not be a "problem". If the rules hadn't been changed according to Kennedy's own direct intervention, there would not be a "problem".
Another enemy of the United States is dead and the Democrats no longer have 60 votes. Bummer.

Although Sen. Ted Kennedy had sought to expedite the process of choosing his replacement to the U.S. Senate, it appears the process will be at least three to four months away. ![](http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/696/kennedysonimage5.jpg)
Upon hearing the news of his papa's death this drug-addled idiot packed all his belongings and moved from Rhode Island to the family compound in Hyannis Port so that he will have established residency in time for the special election in January. Just kidding, but it could happen. And did you ever notice that when these morons get in trouble they show up wearing neck braces?

Thanks to a law change in 2004, Gov. Patrick is not allowed to appoint a temporary replacement, meaning that seat will be vacant until the special election. AKA the Law of Unintended Consequences.
Passed to keep the Mittwit from appointing a successor to John Forbes Kerry, who went to Viet Nam, in the event he might have become president. The average IQ of the Massachusetts legislature is room temperature.

Gawd. They’re referring to it like it was Kennedy’s right to pick a successor.
The Democrats love royalty. That’s why they like the elitist Democrats so much.

BTW, this CBS headline is funny - I know what they mean, but one could take it to imply that a successor should have been appointed after this news was released in the middle of the night.
Well, that’s what Teddy would have wanted...

I shed no tears for Senator Kennedy at his passing (although I would not wish dying of brain cancer on anyone).
Instead of being motivated by genuine public interest in 2004, the Democrat-dominated Massachusetts legislature crafted a partisan measure meant to deny a Republican governor the possibility of appointing a Republican senator if Senator Kerry won the 2004 Presidential election.
Now they are reaping the bitter harvest of their politics.
That said, nearly 5 months is a long gap in representation (even longer when you consider that Senator Kennedy didn't have the decency to do the right thing and resign when he became incapacitated last year). The gap does need to be addressed probably by allowing the governor to appoint a temporary replacement until the special election can be held or simply by providing for a very short campaign period before the election.

What is of some interest is, who wrote that letter to the Legislature last week signed "Edward Kennedy", and why?
I have some experience with fatal brain tumors. One thing is for sure - at last reward day minus 7, Ted didn't write it.
How many other things coming out of his office in the last, say, six months, with his name on them are valid? Not many, I dare say.

Teddy got around to fixing his succession problem in just as timely a manner as he did Mary Jo’s problem.

"No Immediate Action On Kennedy Succession" Succession?
Is that not a term associated with a Monarchy?
In political office one is replaced with an appointment and/or special election.
