Many baby boomers (Americans in the generation born between 1946 and 1964) are continuing to use illicit drugs as they grow older, causing the rate of illicit drug use to go up within the 50 to 59 year old age segment of the population. According to a new analytical publication produced by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), those aged 50 to 59 reporting use of illicit drugs within the past year has nearly doubled from 5.1 percent in 2002 to 9.4 percent in 2007 while rates among all other age groups are statistically staying the same or decreasing.
An Examination of Trends in Illicit Drug Use among Adults Aged 50 to 59 in the United States is the first in a series of new scientific reports being published periodically by SAMHSAs Office of Applied Studies that will provided detailed analyses on important substance abuse and mental health issues challenging the nation.
These findings show that many in the Woodstock generation continue to use illicit drugs as they age, said SAMHSA Acting Administrator Eric Broderick, D.D.S., M.P.H. This continued use poses medical risks to these individuals and is likely to put further strains on the nations health care system -- highlighting the value of preventing drug use from ever starting.
The report analyzes many aspects of this phenomenon including the types of illicit substances involved, different demographic and behavioral factors associated with higher rates of use, and other issues. The data used in the analysis comes from a wide range of sources including 16,656 respondents aged 50 to 59 participating in the 2002 through 2007 National Surveys on Drug Use and Health the nations premier national public health survey of its kind.

HA...YEAH....all the DEMOCRAT boomers....IDIOTS.
This is NOT a surprise. Look at how many of them ended up in The One’s czardom and cabinet.
Sorry folks people who justified their drug use then still find a way to justify it now
I’m not using...I’m still having flashbacks.
They were losers when they were young, and they remain losers when they are old.
O certainly does look stoned at times.
Prolly signed an EO exempting the WH from The Controlled Substances Act.
I’m afraid the worst and most undignified aging scenes will come when Generation X (The Whiners, Generation Woe is Me, The Crybabies, The Worst Generation, Generation Cronkite) get older and the pains of aging is added upon their generally already whiny demeanor.
What a crisis! And yet they’re still here.
Hmmmm...
Source is a Government (ie Obama) office...
Baby boomers are overwhelmingly against Healthcare ‘reform’..
Demonize (buncha damn’ druggies) the opposition??
And, serendipitously, laying the groundwork for grist for the ‘Death Panels’??
Something stinks, here, and it ain’t what the old folks are smoking....
Both generations have their faults but I have to say I have my biggest arguments with boomers. Bunch of know-it-alls.
I’m amazed at the way people who are normally skeptics when it comes to reports from federal bureaucracies suddenly swallow whole whatever comes down the pipe about drug abuse statistics.
Before he told me who had the most I guessed......Washington DC
“But how did you know mom?”
Now we are BOTH looking for the information to confirmed.
As a boomer, I wouldn't know so I'll just have to take your word for it. ;-)
” Something stinks, here, and it aint what the old folks are smoking.... “
Hmmmmmm....
Baby boomers get their drink on

Is anybody else seeing a trend here??
I knew two that were born in 1947 that never did stop using pot. Both also were smokers. Both died of lung cancer before they were 50.
You certainly seem to have special knowledge about a whole generation of people for somebody who apparently does not like know-it-alls.
We can only hope.
If you do a Google News search for Baby Boomers - let me know how many POSITIVE news stories you come up with.
Thank You.
Most of them are in the white house
