It sounds accurate. There are a lot of jobs with bonus’s and special pay categories.
We were looking at pay grades since our son is interviewing for a GS position. It sounds like he will start at nearly 80k..he does have a Phd.
Same situation in CA. Most govt jobs pay far more than civilian. If you add in the retirement benefits and health care..it is even wider difference. Plus..they are hiring and the private sector isn’t.
At some point we taxpayers aren’t going to be able to support all these parasites.
I walk with a group who are all retired CA govt types. They all retired at 55 with 100% pay and health care.
All guaranteed by the taxpayer. Now that CALPERS has lost a lot, the contributions from the Cities and State must go up, meaning even more of our taxes going to retirement rather than current projects.

So the average American employee has a PhD? Not in this world! In the federal government if you are making 79k you have at least a master’s degree, probably in science or engineering, or MBA. The other poster is right, these numbers are extremely suspicious.

I get retirement and healthcare, but it comes out of my pay, the government doesn’t throw it in on top of my salary. Bonuses are rare in my agency, and you have to stand out on the national stage in order to qualify for one. And even then, the government takes 30% of it back in taxes before it ever hits the paycheck.

Speaking as one of these parasites, most of the people I work with stay at their desks late into the night (a daily ritual for me since The Guy With The Ears made it impossible for me to leave work without having to calm down either a State Medicaid director or a bloated healthcare provider), have put in years of dedicated service doing the same, seldom claiming comp time because they didnt have approval to work late, and were doing so when employees in the private sector were taking 2-hour lunches, getting cash bonuses, staying in 5-star hotels on business trips, and doing nothing to earn it.

BTW, you’re talking about State employees if you’re referring to your walking buddies and CALPERS....totally different scenario.
