Mackey is a libertarian. I have a hard-time believing he’s virulently anti-Israel to this degree.
I also have trouble taking Debbie Schlussel seriously.
"..Even cheese and olive oil may not be safe on the shelves, as the chief executive says he is starting a drive to re-educate customers about how to eat well.
We sell a bunch of junk, John Mackey declared. Weve decided if Whole Foods doesnt take a leadership role in educating people about a healthy diet, who the heck is going to do it? .."
Trader Joe’s carries Israeli couscous.
Debbie Schlussel has no case.
That, and she hates Sarah Palin even more than Kathleen Parker.
For this Pro-Israeli, Pro-Asian consumer, I will continue to shop at Whole Foods. And I’ll be glad to give Ms. Schlussel two middle fingers while doing it.
This is nuts. Mackey is certainly eccentric, but to find “Isreal Hating” in the corporate product purchasing is sand poundingly stupid.
The flagship Whole Foods store and the corporate office building in Austin were developed in conjunction with a real estate developer that happens to be Jewish. Yes, the flagship store and corporate offices of Whole Foods are owned by a Jewish real estate developer.
Mackey has worked closely with this group on several sites and never has anyone sensed a hint of “Isreal Hating”. Oh but those are just people that work with him every day, not some blogger who can’t find his favorite Olive oil. Jeesh.
Debbie Schlussel jumped the shark when she accused Valero of being a front for Citgo/PdVSA.
She’s talking about olive oil? Whole Foods carries tons of products from Israel. Schlussel lost me when she started foaming at the mouth over Palin. It seems she’s really lost it now.
The usual cadre of ignorant prominent conservatives is urging us to support of Whole Foods because left-wingers are boycotting the overpriced gourmet food chain since CEO John Mackey wrote an op-ed against ObamaCare in the Wall Street Journal.
Overload! Too much! I'll buy the biggest, cheapest, best tasting bottle of extra virgin olive oil I can find. I thought that was what free markets were all about.
