If you wouldn’t mind another question: How much time do they need for the weather to be clear so they can launch?

I believe for lightning, it has to be continuously clear for at least 15 minutes without a danger of going back into “RED”, although it might be 30 minutes.
The fact that they’re still going through the countdown is just academic. Practice, practice, practice.
Anvil clouds, cumulus clouds, field mills, and flight through rain are currently RED. It isn’t just lightning they’re dealing with. Since Challenger, they take NO chances.

Oh, and field mills are equipment that determine the strength of an electrical field in an area. If the conditions are RED, that means the electrical fields in the area are condusive to possible lightning strikes.

I'm doing the “evening shift” this week.
Was/Am, still hoping here.
Also would have a shot on the balcony, of catching a visual
before the main engines cut-off.

A NEW violation just announced...weather ceiling rules are now RED.
If you’re waiting for official word, I wouldn’t bother. The Shuttle is NOT flying tonight. Count on it.

Thanks again for answering my questions. Doesn’t look good for a launch right now. Darn.

What’s this?
Weather officer says the weather is trending BETTER. Just a matter of time to see if the weather gets better in time to launch.
If so, make my crow deep fried.
