It’s not only veterans. My 87-year-old mom was given a 10% chance to live three weeks ago and beat the odds. She was transported to a nursing home and is now back in the hospital. She’s very weak, but has her full faculties and wants to get better. When she was admitted to the hospital again yesterday, the didn’t do squat for her even though she’s in congestive heart failure. My brother went to see her and got very angry. They put her in there to die. He set about this morning to set them straight. We’ll see if they care. It’s Obamacare a little early.

I'm sorry ... my parents are in their 80’s too.

My mom has literally become a cripple over night. She's uncharacteristically depressed. My Dad has the beginnings of Alzheimer's. I fear for the future of the elderly - vets and no vets.

Have your mom / mom’s doc look into a heart assistance device (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ventricular_assist_device). They may be able to extend her life with one.

Disclaimer - not a doc or nurse or medical professional. If you take advice over the internet without checking with your doctor first, you are really really stupid.
