Hmmm... I was listening to the Reno Police and Sheriff radio on the internet last night and they stopped a car with pipe bomb making materials in the trunk.
Separated by quite a distance from San Mateo but.... The nuts are coming out
Someone got bored with M-80’s.
“Why’s everybody looking at me?”
I grew up near there. Sounds like some nutty kid tryin’ to act cool at the start of school. Dude is in some serious trouble. Bad news for him if he’s guilty. San Mateo Police don’t fool around.
Look, it weren’t me, no matter I graduated from Aragon back in 1981!! ;)
Grew up there, the only city in the country to officially welcome home the men from Vietnam, parade downtown and everything. Parts of SM aren't so affluent, Hillsdale located in one of the better areas, close to Woodside, just down the way from the REALLY affluent folks in Hillsborough.

And the left blames talk radio in 3...2...1...
Hmmmm friends of saul alinsky
Were they confused & thinking they would hit Hillsdale College instead?
These days, home made firecrackers are not tolerated.
So much for advancements in chemistry.

According to this update, it looks like at least 5 different Police agencies responded. One photo shows a Law Enforcement Officer pointing a high-powered weapon at the school. Looks like the local law enforcement-types used this as an excuse to break out with all their high-powered toys. The earlier poster who said that the Police around here "don't mess around" was correct.
I am not at home, but the comments beneath this story at the Web Site seem to indicate that at least one local TV station (and possibly more) was covering this live. The commenter at the Web site complained that the news commentator was engaging in way too much usage of "deep dramatic voice" to make this seem like it was the end of the world. Same commenter also complained that the newsies were repeating the word "Columbine" WAY too much. Sounds like typical news media hype. What else can we expect from them nowadays??
Was all of this overkill on the part of the Police?? Who knows?? If this HAD been a case of Columbine-Part 2, and they did not respond in this manner, then everyone would have accused them of failing to respond seriously enough. The Police probably had no idea what they were dealing with as they first responded, so everyone aired on the side of caution. A sign of the times in which we live.
Oh really, are you aware of the worst school massacre in US history: Bath School Massacre?
On May 18, 1927, 45 people, mostly children, were killed and 58 were injured when disgruntled and demented school board member Andrew Kehoe dynamited the new school building in Bath, Michigan out of revenge over his foreclosed farm due in part to the taxes required to pay for the new school.
Actually...
Surprisngly enough, I am. I used to live in Lansing, Michigan, not too far from Bath. Long-time residents told me about it, and a restaurant in East Lansing has lots of old news-clippings framed and mounted on it's wall. One of the larger clippings is a copy of the newspaper story detailing the event you mention. Some told me that the school bomb in Bath, Michigan was the largest case of a terrorist bomb in the U.S. prior to 9/11. Not sure if that is atually true or not, but it wouldn't surprise me.
Today in San Mateo, however, the newsies are breathlessly intoning "Columbine", not "Bath". I doubt that any of today's MSM has a clue about what happened in Bath, Michigan so many decades ago. Besides, they get more exposure for their left-wing anti-gun agenda by over-hyping a non-existant Columbine connection.

drugs are heaven,
we're the class of 87!"
Go Knights, yay.
You Aragon scum better keep to yer own side of the tracks, boy!
