Don’t get me wrong, I think he was an abominable choice. But if he resigns over this... if he RESIGNS over this...because under anyone’s standards this is plain and simple wrong, I have a renewed respect for the man.

He as nn absolutely terrible choice. The director should be apolitical period. Not some kind of lackey.

Tenet also was a terrible choice and one the WORST decisions of the BUSH admin was leaving that worthless SOB in there.

Just a comment. Most airline pilots no longer have a military background.

The capabilities of CIA and other intelligence agencies is going to be devastating. Simply put, this will invite terrorist attacks on our nation. It’s the question of when, not if.

Most airline pilots no longer have a military background.

Now. But 16 years ago when Panetta ran TSA and even more recently under GWB (IIRC he was the RAT GW let hang around) there were more military folks. Many have now retired but in years past when terrorism was still a major threat the skies were full of them. But look at the overwhelming response to the Flight Deck Officer program. Tons of folks wanted that right to carry in the cockpit and most of them were never affiliated with the military. They were willing to travel at their own expense great distances and put up with hardships likely not related to their stated objective of securing the flight deck from intruders to get that benefit. Panetta's crew did everything in their power and more to specifically drag their heels and deny this training and certifications to those needing it most. In doing so, who knows how many lives were put at risk?

This is getting scary. Makes one wonder if the CIA was getting too close to exposing a terrorist plot against us and Zero and his Marxist comrades in the cabinet are trying to wrest back control of the interrogations of detainees.

I wasn’t referring to you specifically and I will let you use your imagination.
You tell me, what are the options if we have a tyrannical dictator taking over our country? There are only a few options if voting is corrupt and controlled. They have seized the census. They did give ACORN 4.75 BILLION. If voting is like an Afghanistan election. Then what? Your choices are few unless we have a military coup that kicks them all out and holds new elections for all. What did Honduras do when their loon tried to change their government to mimic Hugo Chavez’s?

You can wait until hell freezes over for all I care. I have no intention of living in a Communist country, if you are resigned to it, have fun. If 500 people in DC can take over this country of 300+ million, then it can only be because we are a nation of pussies and should probably either learn to like living as slaves or get the hell out and have a nice life in a free country(yes, there are many of them left).

I think the White House is in the porcess of eating it’s own political activists at the CIA. Serves them right for doing all they could to elect Obama.

No, he’s not a “hero” at all.

He’s simply trying to cover for a large proportion of the staff he has to manage to keep them from revolting.

On the plus side, you can keep your “respect” for the louse to be used on someone else more deserving.

I guess Panetta was apalled at the idea of CIA agents using interrogation methods carefully reviewed by legal experts in the administration, following guidelines developed to keep the interrogation methods legal, are now going to be prosecuted for using those methods in some sort of an obscene show trial. And he wasn’t enough of a toady to just sit back and let that happen to his men/women. Oh, well. Time for The One to look for a new toady, this time someone without any backbone at all.

Amid reports that Panetta had threatened to quit just seven months after taking over at the spy agency, other insiders tell ABCNews.com that senior White House staff members are already discussing a possible shake-up of top national security officials... According to intelligence officials, Panetta erupted in a tirade last month during a meeting with a senior White House staff member... reportedly upset over plans by Attorney General Eric Holder to open a criminal investigation of allegations that CIA officers broke the law in carrying out certain interrogation techniques that President Obama has termed "torture."

Mordy, mordy... you give obama and his mother faaaar more credit than anyone else I have ever seen. Never in a million years would I EVER imagine that he and his mom EVER did anything like work for the CIA! obama work with the CIA and help America in some way? NEVER!!!!

Well, if Julia Child could be a spy, why not those two? Don't forget, clandestine ops everywhere use informants, street people, corner hustlers, whomever they can find and who will take the money and not turn too badly. This situation got out of hand.

You are of course 100% correct. IMHO the CIA hasn't been a truly effective organization, EVER. It was good in it's previous form under "Wild Bill" Donovan as the OSS. When the civilian command authority assumed control SNAFU became the challenge and FUBAR the password. From an official history of the CIA: CLICK

"In October 1945, the OSS was abolished and its functions transferred to the State and War Departments. But the need for a postwar centralized intelligence system was clearly recognized. Eleven months earlier, Donovan, by then a major general, had submitted to President Roosevelt a proposal calling for the separation of OSS from the Joint Chiefs of Staff with the new organization having direct Presidential supervision. Donovan proposed an "organization which will procure intelligence both by overt and covert methods and will at the same time provide intelligence guidance, determine national intelligence objectives, and correlate the intelligence material collected by all government agencies." Under his plan, a powerful, centralized civilian agency would have coordinated all the intelligence services. He also proposed that this agency have authority to conduct "subversive operations abroad," but "no police or law enforcement functions, either at home or abroad."

Obviously, Donovan's powerful plan was rejected on the basis of ongoing turf wars and a need to get political and therein lies the ruination of the republic, in the long term.

I believe the ABC article also contains language to the effect, Panetta has no intentions of quiting.
I believe this latest fiasco is really meant to simply continue attempts to supposedly embarrass the formal administration. Holder would play enough games without bringing any formal charges against anyone. Besides for all we know, there may be those in the CIA that know precisely the time and place zero was born, and if it is what we think true would be a solid holding card for Holder to go easy on the organization.
Piss off the wrong guy or gal in the CIA and zero and his goon squad could quickly go down in ashes.
