Obviously you've never been to Alaska. Soldotna is not "out in the wild". It's just a community on the pennisula, where it's not all that wild. With 45 years up here, tells me that, you as something less than a cheechako to the issue, don't understand the story at all.

We have enough trouble with the dumbass greenies who live in Anchorage, and want to keep all the wild life in the city. When push comes to shove, animals don't belong in the city, they belong in the country.

One of my Dad’s old geezer buddies just retired to Soldotna, it’s not really “the wilderness” although obviously it has wild bears from time to time. And good salmon fishing.
