” But I do think our democracy ...”
Democracy?? No, we have never had a democracy and our founders were totally against a democracy. Words mean things and we need to get back to calling things their proper name.
We have a representative Republic, if we can keep it, and at this point it appears we cannot. I would not want to live in a democracy - which is the equivalent of 5 wolves and 4 sheep voting on what’s for dinner. We have enough of this nonsense in our current form of government.
A ****limited**** federal government with significant checks and balances to prevent it from becoming unlimited is what the founders wanted. We have traveled a long way from that vision and we need to get back to it.
Personal responsibility, capitalism, liberty is what made America the greatest country on earth. It is not perfect, but it light years better than the next best choice.
Liberty means you have the right to fail miserably - no “safety net”. Make bad choices, live with the consequences. It makes for a quick sobering of the stupid and lazy in society. Want to eat? Go to work or depend on other people’s ***charity***. Charity is a free will gift, which does not mean forcing other people into servitude to pay up for other people’s mistakes, laziness, stupidity. Liberty means owning up to your responsibilities - no free ride.
Socialism/marxism, “the common good”, shared responsibility, government control of the people, are all forms of tyranny and will turn America into a third world country where there are two classes of people: rulers and serfs, and I don’t want to live in that country.
We have a Constitutional Republic, but I catch your drift.
What I believe our Constitutional Republic best needs right now is a good, strong, healthy, dose of the people’s voice. It has to be authentic. It has to speak, and it has to be heard. This has hither too been impossible to achieve, but now for the first time in history, it is possible. Let’s let the people speak.
