Travel Icon Says He'll Avoid Arizona Because of Gun Laws

Travel icon Arthur Frommer says he won't be spending his tourism dollars at the Grand Canyon, or anywhere else in Arizona, because the state's laws allow people he described as "thugs" and "extremists" to openly carry firearms.

The author of budget-travel guides said on his blog Wednesday that he was "shocked beyond measure" by reports that protesters openly carried guns and rifles outside a Phoenix building where President Barack Obama spoke on Monday.

Frommer says he won't personally travel in a state where civilians carry loaded weapons as a means of political protest.

We were going to load something in the back...and I said, "Hey let me move my pistol" He about had a stroke..and acted like he'd seen a rattle snake!!

Had a similar experience with my daughter's father in law. We had been to the wedding in Nebraska, and then drove back to Texas. Son in law is from New Joisey, and the family is basically from the area up near New York City, but none of them live there anymore, now that Grandpa, who flew into Nebraska for the wedding, is gone.

Anyway, his folks were going to spend some time with the kids in Ft.Worth, and I needed to get back to San Antonio. Nebraska to San Antonio is a bit of a haul to do in one day, so I'd stayed with them in Ft. Worth that night as well. Son in law had to work the next day, but daughter and her new mother-in-law decided to hit an outlet mall south of DFW (Hillsboro), while we guys decided to visit the Ranger Museum in Waco. (Then the gals drove down to pick him up, and I continued on to "The Real Texas".)

Anyway, he enjoyed the museum, which also has a working Texas Ranger station in the same building. When we left the Museum, I decided to get the .45 out of the trunk, load it up, and put it up front with me. (Should have done it in Ft. Worth, but hadn't). His eyes got about as big as saucers when he saw what I was doing. Heck I have a CHL, it was perfectly legal, (now it would be without the CHL, laws have changed). But somehow having that .45 ACP in the parking lot of the Ranger Station (but on the museum side) struck him as "odd", plus the thought that it was back there with us across 3 states, two of which (maybe all 3) it was not legal in, except the way I had it, unloaded in the trunk) :)

Now I've got his son shooting handguns, although I let him shoot the other .45, and shouldn't' have because he wasn't ready yet. His brother was though, and I'd let the brother shoot the 1911, so I could hardly not let him have a go. He may have put one round into the ceiling. Daughter, SiL and 3 granddaughters (they cheated, the younger 2 are twins) now live in Austin, closer to the real Texas, but I live in Central Texas, actually about an hour north of Berkley on the Colorado. Other daughter and her husband, who like that daughter is a natural born Texican, was already a shooter before they were married, also live in Austin. His Christmas present last year was a set of springs for his PA-63 in 9x18 Makarov. :)

I think he writes guides for just about every place on the planet.

Well, except for places that offend his tender liberal sensitivities.

Hate to tell him but many other states also allow open carry and those who do it are not the “extremists” but people like this one who can’t understand what the second amendment means could be considered that way!
