MEXICO CITY (AP) - Mexico enacted a controversial law on Thursday decriminalizing possession of small amounts of marijuana, cocaine, heroin and other drugs while encouraging government-financed treatment for drug dependency free of charge.

The law sets out maximum "personal use" amounts for drugs, also including LSD and methamphetamine. People detained with those quantities will no longer face criminal prosecution; the law goes into effect on Friday.

You just say that because you've never seen what happens when there are no drug laws.

You mean like back before they started this insanity in 1900?

Are you claiming there has been a fundamental change in human nature in the last century?

Half of all Americans have used drugs at some point in their life.

I've used cocaine before - it was swabbed into my nose by an otolaryngologist prior to sinus surgery.

Excuse me, that comes directly from a guy in england who said it to me.
They legalized all kinds of drugs and they wasted an entire generation to the crap.

Bunch of liberals ended up stoned 24/7 and then elected more liberals who supported it.

Look at the shape they are in now.

so you think that this was actually a good idea I take it?

Yes. Drugs are a mental health problem, not an law enforcement issue and especially not an issue for government to interfer in.

3rd world Mexico has gotten something right finally.

Hasn't the abject failure of alcohol prohibition taught anyone anything?

Alcohol is different than all other substances because it is truly a fundamental product and cultural glue of Western Civilization. Alcohol to the Western cultures is far beyond just a product to get high. Attempting to ban it and American nightlife and dinner wine and beer is not comparable to banning a hashish or even Green tea or Kiwi fruits.

Some time ago I read that the WOD is tied into several international agreements (treaties and extradition). If so, I wonder what it will take to untie those federal commitments.

Any entrepreneur could make a FORTUNE with this law being enacted.

Gives a new meaning to the term "victory garden."

What? Thats an incredibly redicilous statement. Pot has been around since the creation of man.

Prohibtion ended because it DID NOT WORK. WHY dont WOD supporters admit the same?

Yep, or you can read your propaganda.

>England has lost an entire generation to Islamic Radicals, not drugs. The Eurpeans never get ANYTHING right. They cant even take care of their own sick.<

And who elected these idiots that allowed the laws to go in effect that permit all this crap?
The liberals who did nothing but sit on park benches stoned out of their minds.

case in point.

Sounds exactly like what happens when concealed carry laws are enacted.

“Legalize everything and there is no crime! What a concept! “

Alcohol used to be illegal in this country. Organized crime loved it. It made them rich and powerful, able to buy judges and prosecutors and corrupt everyone around them. They used to gun each other and innocent people down in the streets. Since it was legalized how many alcohol dealers have gunned down the competition or innocent people or bribed a judge or customs agent? Some laws have good intentions but unintended consequences. Drug prohibition is one of those.

BTW if you equate legalizing drugs with legalizing murder, then you need to think about that, and why you are wrong.

Drug Decriminalization in Portugal: Lessons for Creating Fair and Successful Drug Policies

Don't lose site of the fact that hundreds of thousands of Americans are making a living off drugs being illegal.

Look at all these people...

The police departments could be renamed the drug and medication enforcement departments.

Look at the tens of thousands of lawyers, court reporters, judges, jailers, corrections, parole agents, thousands in probation departments....

They're all making a living off drugs being illegal.

It's a huge industry in America....And a joke.

So says the man you talked to in England?

Government interference is a liberal trait. Government knowing best is what liberals want.

You obviously support government interference if you support the WOD.

WOD supporters use the same bogus arguments that supporters of gun restrctions use. Whats the difference?

Once government starts with making rules and regulations, they NEVER stop making rules and regulations, at the expense of ones Freedom and Liberty.

If any Freeper feels the founding fathers would support such restrictions on liberty and freedom that the WOD creates, I simply ask: Put down the mind altering substances.
