This is a horrible miscarriage of justice. No doubt Burress was a fool to pack that weapon the way he did and shoot himself, which should have been enough punishment, po0ssibly enhanced by a misdemeanor conviction for disorderly conduct, provided it involved no more than a fine. Actually, he was persecuted for exercising his Second Amendment rights and gets a felony conviction with 20 months in prison while thousands of NYC felons commit burglaries and robberies and get far less harsh treatment.

Well, I’m sure that Packers cornerback Al Harris is breathing a sigh of relief.

I was just going to post this. He has received much harsher treatment than other football players, and probably noncelebs. He has no criminal record. The other article mentions this probably ends his career.

Let’s see. He shot himself and he pleads guilty of gun possession. Duuuuuuh!

Possession is one thing, but the (illegal) discharge of the firearm is the real issue, imho.

Burress could have hired armed protection and a limo driver.
Burress and his fat a55ed partner Pierce were acting like a couple of drunken A-holes. He cost the Giants a return to
the Super Bowl.F-—’em!

Plax would have been better off killing someone while driving under the influence. Stallworth served, what, 24 days?

From a second amendment angle, this is unjust. 20 months! Didn’t he suffer enough by shooting himself and losing all that money? Also, if we had better respect for the second amendment, perhaps he would have been carrying openly in a holster and wouldn’t have shot himself at all.

Just another NFL thug. Somebody said a day or two ago on a similar Michael Vick thread that about 20% of the NFL has a criminal record.

"This is a horrible miscarriage of justice."
I couldn't agree more. Compare this with Stallworth, free after less than month after driving drunk and killing someone.
Or even Vick, who had a comparable sentence for torturing many animals and involvement with interstate gambling and dogfighting.
Burress paid a fairly heavy price just by finding out what it feels like to get shot (not to mention damage to his tools of trade).

Agreed. But whether its a miscarriage of justice or not, Im sure The Phila. Eagles will be looking to sign him as soon as he’s released. McNabb has already lobbied for it, 2 days ago in a press conference.

from a disgusted disenfranchised former Eagles FanLook at the bright side. You won't have to watch McNabb throw the ball into the ground all year. Better yet, you won't have to look at that moron smile when he does it. Having said that, I hope they get to the Super Bowl so I can watch him puke away the game with two minutes to go.

the miscarriage is that if he had done this in virtually any other NFL city, he would have gotten off with a much lighter charge, if any. Personally I think that catching a slug in your thigh is more than enough punishment for the stupidity.
To: nufsed
It’s the NY law. ya get caught with a weapon, ya go to prison.

How so? He’s got Second Amendment rights, too. And being a celebrity, he probably needs to protect himself from morons.
