Now there's a phrase I've never heard in my entire life.

If you've never heard the "we are partners" phrase before that's because there is no such passage in the Torah. There is in Kiddushin 30b of the Talmud the statement approximately, "there are three partners in the formation of a person: the Holy One, Blessed be He, his father and his mother. How that morphed into BHO's little mashup with "life and death" I cannot say. I am however, dismayed that a large number of so-called rabbis didn't 1. spot the error and 2. proclaim that far from giving us the power of life and death in health care situations, we are expressly forbidden to cause death. For one discussion, see Rabbi Mordechai Biser's THE NEW IDEOLOGY IN HEALTH CARE AND HOW TO SURVIVE in the Jewish World Review in 2004 /5765. My dismay is magnified by the fact that this "telephone conference" occurred right before Rosh Chodesh Elul, that is the start of the 30 days before Rosh Hashanah. Rather more needs to be said on this, and I hope those with authority do so.
