Drop in world temperatures fuels global warming debate
McClatchy ^ | August 19, 2009 | Robert S. Boyd

Has Earth's fever broken?

Official government measurements show that the world's temperature has cooled a bit since reaching its most recent peak in 1998.

That's given global warming skeptics new ammunition to attack the prevailing theory of climate change. The skeptics argue that the current stretch of slightly cooler temperatures means that costly measures to limit carbon dioxide emissions are ill-founded and unnecessary.

Proposals to combat global warming are "crazy" and will "destroy more than a million good American jobs and increase the average family's annual energy bill by at least $1,500 a year," the Heartland Institute, a conservative research organization based in Chicago, declared in full-page newspaper ads earlier this summer. "High levels of carbon dioxide actually benefit wildlife and human health," the ads asserted.

Many scientists agree, however, that hotter times are ahead. A decade of level or slightly lower temperatures is only a temporary dip to be expected as a result of natural, short-term variations in the enormously complex climate system, they say.

In fact, we are most likely looking at several decades of cooling. No rush to address CO2 emissions, which have minor (and largely beneficial) effects.

We can get to it, if necessary, once we have better technology than today's.

It’s funny how 20 years of warming (1977-1998) constitute permanent manmade global warming, but 11 years of cooling means nothing....

It’s time to put the government’s “global warming” lies to rest. People lied in exchange for government grants. The lying needs to stop.

I honestly heard some tree hugger explain that the recent cooling is still caused by global warming because the polar ice is melting and cooling off the oceans and the rest of the world.

Well, it says in the article its complex. That is one reason Washington can’t fix it.
second, the earth has been warming and cooling for billions of years. Seems to me to be a bit presumptious to think that man should or could impact it. Isn’t that kind of like playing God?
Now I know liberals hate God, so why would they want to mimic him? Only one I can think of who mimics God to mock Him is satan and tha’t could mean? Well, gee...in my best church lady voice...can we say satan?

And Goldilocks said, “This earth is too cold,” and, “this earth is too hot.” Still looking for the earth that is, “just right!”

The fever didn’t break, the sun did. At least it’s not as hot a star as it was.

remember...with these phony scientists....if its too hot, its globull warming....

if its too cold its globull warming.

if the weather remains the same.....its globull warming.

and they pull out their fraudulent little charts and treatises to prove it.....

“People lied in exchange for government grants.”

That is exactly what happened. Grants were being given out like candy if a college would agree to also act like a Luddite and blame man and machinery for everything.

There is globull warming, globull cooling, and globull sameness. All three of those are man-made, and we must spend our national treasures, as if we didn’t recently do so already, to fix it.

None of their 80 computer models predicted the decade long temperature drop. Every one of them got it wrong. But still they believe. It’s a faith that can not be proven false.

I remeber standing at a bus stop in Moscow a few years ago. It was February and the snow was falling fast and heavy. The wind would cut through steel (or so it felt). About 20 of us stood there, suffering in silence. As we stood there, feeling miserable a fellow American in the back said “Those global warming people are full of cr*p!” Every one cracked up. A russian said “Yes! Yes, Global warming, But when?” That made everyone crack up even more. by the time the bus got there we were laughing our selves warm.

You mean that drop in temperature that comfirmed what those of us who actually got passing grades in graduate physics knew would happen?

The drop in temperature that NASA tried to conceal?

Yup, that one.

“It’s time to put the government’s “global warming” lies to rest. People lied in exchange for government grants. The lying needs to stop.”

Sounds good to me.

However, what’s actually happening is that the 0bama administration is trying to rush through cap and trade before the debate really gets going on this. Thankfully, I don’t think it’ll pass, but we need to make sure nothing like it ever does. It would cost trillions of dollars, and a big chunk of our way of life.

The Green movement loves the idea of manmade global warming because it provides a convenient excuse to limit fossil fuels. It’s all about control.

"cooling"

Before the twenty years of warming (approximately 1980 to 2000) we had thirty years of cooling from the late forties to the late seventies. That means forty out of the last sixty years have been cooling. But of course we are overheating the planet by those twenty warm years. (sneer)
