But there is no evidence that it was a racially motivated hate crime. Evidently they were random murder victims of a randomly predatory sociopath who wasn't targeting his prey by skin color.

And yet the presence of white people in the neighborhood in which the crime occurred was so rare, so unusual, that it was posited shortly after the crime that the victims were in the area to buy drugs, as if that mitigated the heinousness of the crime.

So, we are left to wonder why it was, in an area with very few white people present, that these animals let hundreds, thousands of potential black victims pass by.

It's just speculation on my part, but perhaps this is exactly what led the parents, police & prosecutors to conclude unanimously that it was the victims' late model Toyota 4-runner sticking out like a sore thumb in a derelict neighborhood which attracted these psychotic predators to their victims in the first place.
