“It’s not possible to do both. Yet, in the hall-of-mirrors that is this administration I’m sure they will try.”

The stupid thing about this entire debate is that Obama has the perfect “lab” to perfect his plan! It’s called “Medicaid”, and if you throw in VA and Native American care, it would be the largest gov’t plan in the world I think.

Why not fix Medicaid, combine all Fed programs into it (including Congressmen, staffers, employees, etc), and show us how good it is? I mean, who among the GOP would argue with fixing Medicaid?

I doubt anyone would argue with fixing Medicaid.

On the other hand, I think the conservative “fix” for Medicaid and the marxist “fix” for Medicaid are two vastly different animals. :-)

Medicaid doesn’t operate on the same premise as VA benefits.

That would make too much sense.

The other problem, is that it doesn't reach far enough into individual freedoms, and provide for enough government intrusion and control into everyone's lives.

Democrats are just too stupid to understand that social health care is no different than any other type of social program, it needs a healthy private sector industry and business generating the jobs and revenues from which to feed on, and this government spending cannot exceed what it receives from these revenues.

Ultimately, any 'social' health care is going to have to have some amount of "user pays" provisions in order for it to be sustainable.

Even countries like Canada are moving towards a blend of some private insurer, user pay health care, because as the population grows, so do the unsustainable levels of abuse in the system.

If Canada's "Single payer" system of basic rationed health care, which doesn't even cover things like dental and eye care, foot, physical therapy, and drugs, has reached it's limits with a population level of 30 million, what makes Democrats think it is sustainable with a population ten times that size, which will have ten times the levels of abuse and fraud?

In fact it is precisely this abuse and fraud which has driven medicare and medicaid into such massive deficit spending in the first place. Making it bigger is only going to make it more costly, and drive our national debt/deficit spending even higher, which is already beyond what we can afford.
