I understand that we assume that Ann was flying everywhere she went prior to and during 1960. Flying during this period was very expensive and most folks took a train or went by boat. I am not sure she would have been able to fly all over the country during this period because of the price. Passinger list on boats cound probably be checked during this period.

Bear in mind that Barack Sr.'s family was not poor. They were influential in Kenyan politics, and apparently were able to support him in college. Not very many foreign students studied in the US in that era, especially not very many Africans. In addition, there may have been youth discount fares available in some situations of which Ann could have taken advantage.
