Thanks for posting. I’d been following this story online recently. I hadn’t seen this news. Interesting.

Was Doug Henning involved in anyway?

Why didn’t the Russkies consult Kreskin?

I hadn’t seen this news.

Seems kinda low-key for such a sensational story.

Yes it does. It will be interesting to see who these freighter-jackers are, what they're ultimate agenda was and who else may have supported them on the ground.

It's not like your run-of-the-mill car-jacker.

Well done Russian Navy.

(Actually, I’m kind of glad to be able to post “Well done, Russian (anything)” for a change.)

Now, make the criminals walk home...

MSM cannot do this story because it will vividly demonstrate what a wimp Zer0 and his merry band of gay blades really are.

The Rookies will make the pirates truly sorry that they took a Rooskie ship....and millions of Americans will notice.

The Russians are not going to give the pirates a slap on the wrist...

from the article:

“The invaders reportedly had tied up the crew, beat them, claimed they were looking for drugs, then sped off about 12 hours later in an inflatable craft.”

“...said the suspected hijackers were detained by the naval vessel that found the Russian-crewed freighter Monday off Cape Verde,...”

“The Arctic Sea sailed from the Finnish port of Pietarsaari on July 21. On July 30, Swedish police said the ship's owner had reported that the crew claimed the vessel was boarded by masked men on July 24 near the Swedish island of Gotland.”

“By the time the Swedish report of the attack had emerged, the ship had already passed through the English Channel, where it made its last known radio contact on July 28. Signals from the ship's tracking device were picked up off France's coast the next day, but that was the last known trace of it until Monday.”

This does not compute. If the pirates struck near Sweden and left 12 hours later in an inflatable boat, they would still be in the Baltic. How were they detained by the same naval vessel that found the Russian-crewed freighter Monday off Cape Verde? Why did the crew continue off course for thousands of miles after the pirates left the ship? Why didn't the crew report the attack immediately after the pirates left? I suppose the pirates could have destroyed all of their navigation and communications equipment, but if so why didn't the crew simply sail to the nearest land and follow the coast till they encountered a port or other traffic that they could hail? Why navigate the English Channel and sail off into the Atlantic if the pirates were not on board? I suspect something fishy is going on and the Russians are covering it up.

It will be interesting to see who these freighter-jackers are

The story is not exactly low-key in Russian press. Here are some details (use Google to translate if necessary.)

The ship was taken by an international group of pirates (from Estonia, Latvia and Russia) in Swedish waters. The pirates came in an inflatable boat and pretended to be Swedish police to get on board. Sweden investigates that on their end. Pirates were armed, and after some violence they forced the crew to go toward Africa. No names are published yet - probably it takes time to confirm who is who. When the Russian anti-submarine ship approached the seized ship the pirates decided to surrender without fight. The pirates are under arrest now, and investigation is in process.

It will probably take a while for the Russians to release all the details. Unless they have in Russian, as per post #16.

The translated article doesn't answer any questions. The relevent quote is

"Until then, it was reported that unknown, disguised as police stopped a dry-cargo ship on 24 July in Swedish waters of the Baltic Sea. Преступники, подплывшие к кораблю на надувной лодке, поднялись на борт и связали команду, после чего обыскивали судно в течение 12 часов. Criminals, podplyvshie to ship in an inflatable boat, boarded the team and tied, and then searched the vessel for 12 hours. Несколько членов экипажа были избиты. Several crew members were beaten. Когда неизвестные покинули борт корабля, он продолжил движение по своему маршруту. When the unknown aircraft had left the ship, he continues on his route. Шведские власти до сих пор ведут расследование этого инцидента. Swedish authorities still are investigating the incident."
