Jack London joined the Klondike gold rush and spent a winter in the Yukon, where he learned firsthand about the harsh Northland country and the even harsher treatment of animals. His novels and stories are categorized as fiction but there is probably much more non-fiction in them based on his direct and actual experience.

One of my favorite childhood books.
I remember that scene vividly.

Clinging Death
I thought this was going to be about the “Bitter-Clingers” trying to hold on to their health care plan or their life from the hands of the Obamao health plan.
But seriously, White Fang is a great book.

So he lived with a few dogs for a year and that makes him an authority?
hardly.
His work is classified as fiction because that’s what it is. Touchy feely fiction.

Not much difference between Vick and the poster who advocated poisoning dogs with antifreeze on another thread.
*Anybody* who intentionally inflicts prolonged suffering on an animal is evil.

I saw Vick on 60 Minutes on Sunday night. I couldn’t tell if he was really sorry for what he did.

Michael Vick is a thug, plain and simple, and he will meet a thug’s end at some future point.

It was a good read.
The only thing I can think of to stop an attack by a pit bull is to smash the spinal cord.

Jack London was a committed communist. Read The Sea Wolf to get an idea of his politics.
