LOL, I remember having to pull some stunts like that in my association with the military:)

I PCS'd CONUS in 1998 for my last year and outprocessing was "interesting". I remember this one instance where I was supposed to have a sub office of CBPO (personnel office in the USAF) sign my form. But the guy there told me that some other guy at another office had to sign his section first. So I went to that place and he sent me back to CBPO. The guy at CBPO was one of those "ageless white guys" who looked like he'd been a GS employee since he retired in the 40s and perhaps the preservatives in food was preventing him from aging past 60-something. Anyway, he wouldn't budge and I was trying to explain that in 18 days I was going to be a civilian with NO inactive reserve obligation. He just didn't care. I asked him to please call the other office and try to sort this out for me, and he simply refused. I got mad and slapped my ID card down on the counter top and said, "Do you see that?! See the expiration date?! When THAT date arrives, I'm dumping off of the shit that I have which belongs to the USAF at the gate and I'm going HOME!...and personally I don't give a flying fart whether you sign my damned form or not because when I get out in the parking lot I'm going to sign it for you ANYWAY!"

The guy started to get mad and say something when I heard movement in the area behind him around the corner. He looked behind him just as a Lt. Col stepped into view...and I thought, "Oh crap...NOW I've done it...!" This rather stern Lt. Col looked directly at me and my name tape and said, "What seems to be the problem SSgt ****?" I went over the little "who's on first" problem that I was having between CBPO and the other office and he nodded sternly and listened while the other guy just stood there looking at me with equal sternness. I was NOT feeling good about this! Then the Lt. Col looked at the other guy and asked, "Is this true?" ...to which the guy answered, "Yes Sir." Then the Lt. Col replied to him, "So sign the damned form!!!" Then he turned to me breaking into a big smile and shook my hand like I thought it was going to fall off and thanked me for my time and service and we chatted for about five minutes and he did the right thing and tried to talk me into not leaving!

I said bye to them as I was leaving and I still remember that Lt. Col standing there smiling like some sort of big kid, and the old GS guy standing next to him looking like somebody just pissed in his cool aid! :-)
