Political Insider Health care activism forces Dick Armey to resign 4:44 pm August 14, 2009, by Jim Galloway
Former U.S. House majority leader Dick Armey is the keynote speaker at Saturdays anti-health care reform rally in Atlantas Centennial Park.
But as of today, hes also underemployed. This from Politico.com:
Former House Majority Leader Dick Armey (R-Texas) is resigning from DLA Piper law firm amid a wave of negative attention his grassroots organization, Freedom Works, has drawn for helping to organize protesters at health care town hall meetings with members of Congress.
In an interview Armey said that he was concerned about the media scrutiny the health care protests were drawing to the firm he has been associated with since retiring from Congress.
The firm is busy with its business, and shouldnt be asked to take time out from their work, to defend themselves of spurious allegations, Armey said. No client of this firm is going to be free to mind its own business without harassment as long as Im associated with it.
In a statement, DLA Piper Chairman Frank Burch said the parting was mutual.
Conservatives are honest. That’s one reason they are conservatives.
A conflict of interest could damage Armey's efforts.
what’s the lie?? did armey ever lie about his connections to insurance?? liberals are connected to their interest group again and again and no one calls them on it.
does the conflict ever damage liberals. no, because they stand up to it.
I don’t think Dick Armey needs any advice from you!
why is it all of the sudden that having a personal interest in a political postion a conflict of interest?? why does it only apply to conservatives?? why does it seem that lately conservative have to sacrifice things they’ve worked so hard at and become “outsiders” to be effective?? i don’t recall a liberal doing that.
So you want him to be dishonest.
From now on, I will ignore you.
i wasn’t offering any. i’m simply fed up with the namby-pamby mincing of words and the fear.
i still don’t know how what he would be doing is dishonest if he doesn’t hide it?? maybe i’m wrong but i don’t think so.
Boortz has been calling it that for years, then others picked up on it. It makes me smile every time.
Glad to see you mention that...my thinking as well.
FWIW ..... wikipedia has been edited to reflect the news:
In August 2009 Armey was asked to step down from his lobbying position at DLA Piper, a Washington lobby firm working for the pharmaceutical industry to pass health care reform legislation. Armey was simultaneously chairing the conservative group FreedomWorks which was actively working to defeat health care reform. DLA Piper was concerned about the conflict of interest particularly since their clients were spending millions in advertising and lobbying money to support the passage of health care reform and FreedomWorks was linked to disruptive right wing demonstrations at town hall forums where health care reform was being discussed.

I understand how you feel...but I trust Armey to know what and why he’s doing what he’s doing.
The Drug Companies had hired Armey’s lobby shop to lobby Congress in support of Obamacare. Armey refused to support Obamacare - so the firm gave him a choice: support Obamacare or seek work elsewhere. Many GOPers on K street are supporting Obamacare - an obvious example is former Congressman Billy Tauzin.
The drug companies forced him to resign. They’re in bed with Obama.
i hope you are right. not sure i trust anyone political at this point.
instead of quiting how about a large ugly firing. the noise would cause people to look at the activity on the liberal tree.
YOU can run for Congress ... if you are Constitutionally qualified, have thick skin, and half a brain, why not? Why is everyone sitting back expecting others to do the work, and to enter the arena? Or recruit, or volunteer for someone willing to enter the fray. There are a lot of ways we can become engaged, not look to others.
I wish to God we were a country of citizen-legislators instead of professional lifelong members of congress.
i really have no leadership talent. look, i can’t even get anyone to agree with me on a noted conseravtive website. what does constitutionally qualified have to do with it?? we aren’t even sure if the president is constitutionally qualified and if we voice that idea, we are deranged. see what i mean??
Its believe its a conservative lobbying firm, but they were taking lots of heat. I doubt he jumped, more likely he was pushed.
