Political Insider Health care activism forces Dick Armey to resign 4:44 pm August 14, 2009, by Jim Galloway
Former U.S. House majority leader Dick Armey is the keynote speaker at Saturdays anti-health care reform rally in Atlantas Centennial Park.
But as of today, hes also underemployed. This from Politico.com:
Former House Majority Leader Dick Armey (R-Texas) is resigning from DLA Piper law firm amid a wave of negative attention his grassroots organization, Freedom Works, has drawn for helping to organize protesters at health care town hall meetings with members of Congress.
In an interview Armey said that he was concerned about the media scrutiny the health care protests were drawing to the firm he has been associated with since retiring from Congress.
The firm is busy with its business, and shouldnt be asked to take time out from their work, to defend themselves of spurious allegations, Armey said. No client of this firm is going to be free to mind its own business without harassment as long as Im associated with it.
In a statement, DLA Piper Chairman Frank Burch said the parting was mutual.
You mean the Atlanta Urinal-Constipation is still being published?
When was the last time any ACORN leader resigned?
ROFLMAO!!! Never heard it called that before!!
why does he have to resign?? i’m so tired of pussy republicans with no balls. they are worse that liberals.
His activism was getting in the way of the law firm conducting business. I absolutely understand why he did it. The press must have been hounding them.
“When was the last time any ACORN leader resigned?”
This is STUPID.
THIS is how they silence EFFECTIVE people.
Dick needs to tell them where they can get off and become BOLDER and in their face.
Wake up Dick!
So, on your OWN time, you cannot express your opinion of head or be part of an organization that is not favorable to Obama? How come UNIONS, don't have that problem. They ALL SUPPORT OBAMA and when I state this, no one in a UNION feels compelled to resign or step aside so the UNION members don't feel “harassed” or “associated” with Obama?
Again, GOPers have a different standard.
“When was the last time any ACORN leader resigned?”
Or how about the America Bar Association?
When was the last time a Democrat acted ethically, or with a sense of propriety?
I have great respect for Dick Armey. He is an honorable man.
Did you ever think that he wishes to resign rather than harm his firm. You know what the Left is capable of when it comes to frivolous lawsuits.
Sorry, I do not see this like you do.
It’s time for Dick Army, Santorum, Watts and a few others that have had a respite to get back in the game.
Army shouldn’t let these people silence him and now he can become more vocal. Let’s hope that’s his intentions.
NEVER?
Perhaps some of the partners of the law firm are Obama supporters, and gave him an ultimatum?
Dick Armey steps aside to avoid his firm being “Palinized”
so back down with his tail between his legs like most republicans. i’m sick to death of it. it’s time fight. if not now, then when??
Yeah, Armey should selfishly hang in there are let everybody else at his law firm worry about themselves. Yeah, that’s the ticket.
Class act by Armey
Geez...some of you people are stupid.
nah, he should fold like all republicans and run to the hills squalling like sissy. makes me sick.
