“Does anyone know who which president created the first czar?”
Andrew Jackson mistrusted many in his cabinet and had some close friends come in through the “back door” to advise him. From what I’ve read these extraneous advisers made most of the decisions.
I don’t know if they were paid or not, however.
Thanks for the info. It seems as though the term “czar” is being used more in 2009 than any other time. It’s also interesting to note the difference between “czar” as a derisive term in American history and the modern acceptance
of the title as legitimate in a republic.
