Freeport, Ill. - It doesnt take long to determine where Congressman Don Manzullo stands on the proposed national health care bill.
People need to go to their windows, stick their heads outside and scream Were not going to take this anymore!, Manzullo said Friday, Aug. 14, 2009, in an interview at The Journal-Standard.
The 16th District U.S. Representative, a Republican, has held town hall meetings in Elizabeth, Sycamore, and Oregon to gage public opinion on the controversial legislation and to inform people about the details of the health plan.
Inevitably, people ask at the end of these meetings what they can do to help fight this thing, Manzullo said.
The Congressman said he has skimmed the entire 1,018 page bill, and has spent some 70 hours studying the legislation.
Im about 40-percent through the bill, and its confusing for me, and Im a lawyer, Manzullo said.
Provisions of the health plan that are especially worrisome, according to the Congressman, include its cost, coverage, and the confusing rules and regulations of the legislation.
Its bizarre, the whole bill is just bizarre, Manzullo said.
The Congressman said private insurance companies will find it difficult to compete with a government-run insurance option, ultimately driving these companies out of business. He said the bill pushes, people to enroll in the public option and may result in a poor quality of health care. Manzullo said the Medicare reimbursement for health providers will be less than what is currently being paid by private insurance companies, forcing the medical industry to cut its costs significantly and determining which options can be offered to care for patients.
If thats not rationing of health care, I dont know what is, Manzullo said.
Notably, Manzullo said, an amendment to the current bill that would have put federal employees and members of Congress on the same health care plan being supported by President Obama, was defeated in committee by a vote along partisan lines and is not part of the current legislation.
Thats just scandalous, Manzullo said.
The Congressman plans on two more town hall meetings this month, in Rockford and McHenry County, and said he has not had to deal with an unruly crowd at any of his three gatherings to date.
This issue has really ignited something in people. Ive never seen people latch on to something so spontaneously, Manzullo said. People are upset, and they want others to know that theyre upset.
Good question - what does rationed care REALLY look like?
What does socialized medicine REALLY look like?
Well.......ALRIGHT!!!! THIS is what we’re talkin’ about!!!!
btt
Well, there's a reason for that. He's my Congressman and we're a pretty Republican district.
The USA will become a country where the practice of medicine will revert to assisted suicide.
Over 1,000 pages. WHO WROTE THEM and WHEN DID THEY WRITE THEM?
Don Manzullo is a superb Congressman and a very nice guy. He represents my district (which used to be represented by the execrable John Anderson, among other strange flora and fauna). Don beat a one-term liberal Demonrat in about 1994 and has been comfortably re-elected ever since. If you’re the best kind of Republican, Don’s your guy too.
Manzullo is genuinely a stand-up guy. He was my younger brother’s congressman when he lived in Illinois. The reason his Town Hall Meetings are orderly is because the guy actually listens to his constituents. Sadly, he is not typical of Illinois politicians.
he’s my congressman as well. one of the few good politicians in the republic of illinois.
Sounds like the type of Republican congressmen we need right now, not afraid to mix it up with the Rats and MSM.
(CNN) -- The Senate's second-ranking Democrat slammed recent town-hall protests over health care on Sunday, insisting they violate "the democratic process," while the Senate's top Republican accused Democrats of "attacking citizens" with such complaints.
Speaking to CNN's "State of the Union," Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Illinois, said: "We have these screaming groups on either side. That isn't helpful. Let's be honest about this. Town meetings are not bean bag. I've had hundreds of them, and sometimes folks get upset. And that's part of America, part of our process.
"But this is clearly being orchestrated, and these folks have instructions. They come down from a Texas lobbyist in Washington."
Huge numbers of Doctor's, nurses, and therapists will quit or retire......
You can bet on it...
