John C. Garand designed the magnificent M1--lauded by Patton as the "greatest single battle implement ever devised by man."
John T. Thompson designed the incomparable Thompson submachine gun.
But John Moses Browning, the greatest of the three, designed an entire arsenal of firearms including semiautomatic handguns, sporting rifles and shotguns, light and heavy machine guns, and even ammunition for them.
I own or have owned a Springfield Model 1911A semiautomatic handgun, a Winchester Model 97 pump-action shotgun, a Browning Auto-5 semiautomatic shotgun, and a Winchester Model 1890 pump-action .22--all John M. Browning designs. I have the deepest respect for this man of great genius.
Obama has been handing out Medals of Freedom to undeserving political hacks and Marxist rabble rousers. John Moses Browning actually deserves one--even posthumously--and will likely never receive one.
I've a Garand myself, though I think I'd like to have an M-14 as well. I would consider the M-14 the M-1 Garand's logical successor with bottom feed and an improved gas system. I consider it the pinnacle of development of battle rifles.
