I am not that sure how good doctors are about bringing up these issues if the patient does not raise them. For people with limited education or who are in denial about the seriousness of their situation, they might not do that.

Does anyone out here have some real life experience with how well this is accomplished under current conditions?

My mother has seen many different doctors in the last 8 yrs. and nearly all of them have asked if she has a living will. No need for BIG BROTHER to mandate anything.

Doctors aren’t mind readers, if people want help they need to ask for it. Don’t try pushing your idiotic ideas about death care onto others. I don’t ever intend to seek “end of life” counseling because I figure I will die with out anyone’s help. However if others wish to do so they are free to talk to anyone that will listen to them. A doctor would seem a logical choice. You want limited health care, long waiting periods and end of life(read assisted suicide)sessions? Go to Cuba, Canada or Great Britain just to name a couple, don’t push them onto us.

Most folks who live beyond 65 are quite capable of taking care of themselves and have managed to have kids, raise kids, buy a house, get a job, purchase groceries, etc. The elderly are not retarded.

Yes, When I went into the doctors with my Mom, they handed her papers to fill out. They said it wasn’t a requirement but will give the doctor an Idea of what she wanted IN CASE she had a problem later in life. They did that with my Dad as well.

Standard procedure when you go to the hospital as well.
