‘I’m confused..if tennis isn’t important, than what was she getting a medal for?’

Probably for having the ‘courage’ to be openly lesbian when it wasn’t cool to be openly lesbian. That’s my guess. I’m trying to think like a liberal who has to choose medal recipients. All kidding aside, it should be for excellence in tennis and for being a notable female athlete, ‘cause BJK was quite good...

I don’t believe she was openly lesbian- at least not at first. She was married and apparently having surreptitious affairs- that eventually everybody knew about.
