Grassley repeats 'death panel' claim (MSNBC in meltdown)
MSNBC ^ | 8/12/09 | Mike Murray

Posted on 08/12/2009 4:01:23 PM PDT by pissant

The final nail in the coffin for a bipartisan Senate Finance Committee bill?

According to the Huffington Post, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R) -- the ranking member on the panel who's working with Committee chairman Max Baucus (D) -- appeared to endorse the untrue "death panel" argument on health care.

"There is some fear because in the House bill, there is counseling for end-of-life. And from that standpoint, you have every right to fear. You shouldn't have counseling at the end of life. You ought to have counseling 20 years before you're going to die. You ought to plan these things out. And I don't have any problem with things like living wills. But they ought to be done within the family. We should not have a government program that determines if you're going to pull the plug on grandma."

It's NOT a "Death Panel". If it was a "Death Panel", it would be called "The Death Panel", and the members would wear black jackets with giant yellow signs that said "DEATH PANEL".

This is merely a group of bureaucrats who will decide if you live or die based on your usefulness to the federal government. How anyone could call that a "Death Panel" is simply incomprehensible.

Obama and the Leftist media decry supposed, fear-mongering charges of “Death Panels” as baseless, but are silent regarding explicit and indistinquishible HHS / Congressional jargon requiring or incentivizing physicians to “initiate guided consultations” regarding “advance care planning” or “end of life planning” (HR 3200 sec. 1233) in order to meet bureaucratic goals (http://www.ahrq.gov/research/endliferia/endria.htm) for “reducing resource use”and “positively influencing terminal care costs” through such “consultations.

Physicians are to be subjected to de-facto quotas via “quality reporting initiative” measured against yet to be defined standards, to be endorsed or adopted by “consensus based organizations”. These “Advance Care Planning Consultations” to include “an explanation by the practitioner of the continuum of end-of-life services and supports available, including palliative care and hospice, and benefits for such services and supports that are available under this title. “

Sec. 141 - 142 of the House bill “Establishes the ‘Health Choices Administration’, an independent executive branch agency.” “The ‘Health Choices Commissioner’ will carry out out functions including: establishment of qualified plan standards, establishment and operation of the Health Insurance Exchange, administration of affordability credits, and additional functions as laid out within the bill. The Commissioner can collect data necessary to carry out his or her duties and to promote quality and value and address disparities in health care.”

Corollary provisions empower other government bureuacrats to adopt and implement a “national wellness strategy” to “improve the Nation’s health” through “community prevention and wellness activities (sec. 3121) coordinated by the “Task Force on Clinical Preventive Services” (sec. 3131) charged with among other things, “‘taking into account health disparities in developing, updating, publishing, and disseminating evidence-based recommendations on the use of such services”.

Additionally, a czar-like, “Director of the Center for Quality Improvement” is to be charged with “ prioritizing areas for the identification, development, evaluation, and implementation of best practices for quality improvement activities in the delivery of health care services” in accordance with the evolving political consensus, likely complied by ACORN, and reflected by long established and all too familiar “we are the government and we know what’s good for you so shut up and take it” standard.

I thought it very telling that Bama used a very young girl planted at his sideshow yesterday to respond directly to Sarah.

If somehow Sarah Palin, yes private citizen Sarah Palin’s words were somehow able to kill this bill, I will build a statue in her honor. This is what she meant by “I don’t need a title to help people” does she want to become President, who knows, she doesn’t want to see this country go down the drain, now people are actually discussing what is truly in the bill:

Page 425 Lines 17-19 - Government will instruct and consult regarding living wills, durable powers of attorney. (Mandatory!)

Page 425 Lines 22-25, 426 Lines 1-3 - Government provides approved list of end of life resources, guiding you in death.

Page 427 Lines 15-24 - Government mandates program for orders for end of life. (The Government has a say in how your life ends.)

Page 429 Lines 1-9 - An “Advanced Care Planning Consultant” will be used frequently as patients health deteriorates.

Page 429 Lines 10-12 - “advanced care consultation” may include an ORDER for end of life plans. (AN ORDER from Government!)

Page 429 Lines 13-25 - The Government will specify which Doctors can write an end of life order.

Sounds like a death panel to me. If those two little words that she probably never imagined would make such a huge impact, ends up killing this thing, I consider that to be the biggest accomplishment that she has made since her resignation speech. This bill is DOWNRIGHT EVIL. I hope it dies and is never brought up again

Yes, she took the hit when no other GOP leader would say anything. They are having a meltdown over at MSNBC. Of course the bill does not say “Death Panels” but with rationed care, as proposed, that will be the end result.

So baby boomers as you age, it will be your duty to the fureur and the fatherland to DIE, sooner than later. That way the Gov can get a two-fer.... an earlier death from you saving both on medical costs and also SAVING ON SOCIAL SECURITY COSTS. The money the Gov saves on your earlier death will be allocated to more welfare, and food stamp payments and of course more benifits to illegals.

Chrissy Matthews is going to have a stroke, I hope.

He said GD on TV while interviewing the protester who came armed to an Obama town hall. But he never uttered a word when Sen. "Sheets" Byrd uttered the "white N" slur.

What a hypocrite.

I'm confused. The left wingers marched and shouted against Youth In Asia during the Viet Nam War.

Now they're for it?
