(This is a self-serving press release put out by TSA today)
TSA Updates Summer Travelers On New Secure Flight Procedures Taking Effect This Summer
New TSA Program Makes Travel Safer & Easier for Passengers by Streamlining the Aviation Watch List Matching Process
As the summer vacation travel season continues TSA is educating travelers about new security procedures being introduced and remind them of the reasons behind existing requirements at security checkpoints. The communications effort is an extension of TSAs national public awareness and education campaign, launched in November 2008, and is designed to build awareness about security procedures so that passengers will be better prepared for air travel.
Under Secure Flights first public phase, which began in May, some airlines began asking passengers to use their name as it appears on the government ID they plan to use when traveling. On August 15, passengers will also begin being asked to provide their date of birth and gender when making an airline reservation. Secure Flight is a phased in process -- and if a passenger is not prompted to provide this additional information by a particular airline, they should not be concerned as it should not impact their travel.
How Secure Flight works:
Airlines will send information provided by passengers to TSA
TSA will match passenger information against the No Fly and Selectee watch lists to keep passengers safe. Most passengers will not notice any differences from the way they traveled before
How will transvestites and transexuals register? When "Frank" has surgery to become "Francine" how will they report their gender? What will they do half way through the surgical process? 10% complete?
this could so easily be circumvented and defrauded... in so many ways... sounds like they just want to check off the box on their quality control form that says: NEW SAFETY REGULATIONS IN PLACE.
Just wait until they cross-ref this against everyone who turned themselves into the flag snitch box (which I did, multiple times).
It’s completely Orwellian.

Don’t forget they’ll soon link to your party id....
Yup, done that thing.
Get ready to supply your bank account number, your social security number and your address — just in case they might (nudge, nudge, wink, wink) need these items.
If they want all those numbers, I will develop a serious case of dyslexia. Ooops.
me too, on a lot of days..... I guess our flying days are over..:D
Screw ‘em, I don’t need to fly.
The last time I was on a commercial airliner was in 1998 and I haven’t missed a damn thing.
TSA can shove their wand up their ass.
my job requires air travel - I cannot wait to retire and become a non-productive drag on the economy.
I hate going through airports, and I hate paying taxes so Rats can steal it as well as my rights.
I quit flying four years ago and will not go through that hell unless family matters force such.
Really annoying since my full complete name does not match the idiotic assumptions of some airline frequent-flyer system programmers. And I'm an American -- wait until they encounter folks from elsewhere in the world. What part of what name belongs where, when the divisions and modifiers may be cultural?
That would make round trip tickets problematic.
At least it’s not a one lap around the world ticket, like the old Pan Am Flight #1
Don’t say “Around The World” to a gay guy!
