I saw the Alen Spector town hall this morning. He said some of the "savings" that would pay for universal health care is coming from people getting annual checkups. Obama has said the same thing. Then I read this:

http://www.thirdage.com/medical-care/diagnosis-annual-checkups-overrated

"There is very little evidence, if any, that doing [comprehensive] exams yearly on patients without symptoms is good for anything," said Dr. Ned Calonge, chairman of the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, which does not endorse yearly physicals.

But we'll ignore actual research, and do unnecessary annual tests on everyone (soon to be mandatory under penalty of law), because it makes us feel good.

Freedom means being able to make your own rational choices, not have irrational ones forced on you.

When I was 35, I had a doctor tell me that it was a waste of money and time for a man under the age of 50 to go to the doctor unless he had a problem.
