"What would prevent a crazy nut from getting close enough to this man and be able to grab the gun out of the holster and start shooting? Are guns secured in a holster some way?"That was my thought too: this holster doesn't have anything covering the trigger, it appears to be a "pressure" type holster. If so, the gun could be grabbed by someone.

Now I see the video with more detail, there is a strap over the hammer. It could not be easily taken from him.
