A. Barry Rand, chairman of the Board of Trustees at Howard University and a nationally recognized agent for social change, has been tapped as AARPs new chief executive officer, it was announced Thursday.
Rand, 64, a former top executive at Xerox and Avis Rent A Car, will succeed Bill Novelli when he takes over the associations top post on April 6. He will become AARPs first African American CEO.
According to an AARP press release, Rand is a catalyst for social change and inclusion in the workplace. He was selected to lead AARP after a national search that lasted nearly a year.

Thanks for the info. I just enrolled with American Seniors Association and will tell everyone I know to do the same. If you are currently a member of AARP, you can get an extra month free with ASA if you send them your torn up AARP card.
If memory serves me right it is an additional YEAR free...
Correct, I meant to say year instead of month.
As did I a few minutes ago, although it took the better part of an hour to figure out how to send a request to cancel my membership and request a refund. There may be an easier way (doubt it) but here's how I did it:
1. Go to the AARP site
2. At the bottom of that page click on "Contact AARP"
3. Click on "Your Membership"
4. On the following page under "Your Membership" click on "More Questions?"
5. At the bottom of the resulting drop down
6. Click on the words "contact us"
7. Fill out the form and provide all the data including the membership number you wish to cancel.
I'm supposed to get a reply within 2 days.
To cut off any BS about getting my refund, I added:
"I do not wish a discussion or a debate about cancelling my membership and receiving a refund."
I joined AARP at age 50 because it allowed me to get hotel/motel discounts; however, now that I am over 60, I can get "senior citizen" discounts almost everywhere.
No kidding. Hiring a CEO for social change?
