The protests are against cap and trade, which will ruin our economy and also against government run healthcare which will ruin our economy even faster. Obama and the dem’s plans will ruin our country, that is why we are protesting.

Come on now, I’m not an imbecile. I understand WHY there are Tea parties.

That is not the point.

I do not question the motivation for protest, nor the dedication and values of the protesters.

I question the TECHNIQUE.

When I have protested (or counter-protested) in the past, we attacked the enemy DIRECTLY and on his soil. That meant across the street from the camp the leftoids set up at an Army base, or in front of a Congressman’s office, or in Washington at the Vietnam memorial when the moonbats came to deface it.

Tea parties seem like a bit self aggrandizing. Like emotional masturbation. Much heat with very little light.

Look, they are named TEA PARTIES. The inspiration for the name is the Boston Tea Party. That was a powerful, direct act of defiance against the enemy on his own ground (the ships). It would not have been all that radical or threatening if it was a bunch of guys burning their own tea 20 miles from Boston in some park.

There is a great scene in Mississippi Burning when the local Blacks, who had had enough of the lynchings and church burnings, rioted. The problem is they were burning their own neighborhoods! When the FBI agents saw the local cops monitoring the riot, but not interfering, they asked why they did not stop the riots. The cops laughed and said who cares. Just a bunch of ______ tearing up their own stuff.

I see the Tea Parties a little like that.

The town hall protests are different - they take the fight directly to the enemy, on his ground. They get people on the sidelines fired up while the Tea Parties preach to the choir. I mean, honestly, if Cindy Sheehan and Code Pink held an anti-war protest in some park in the middle of no where, would you care? Would anyone? Far more effective for them to protest outside Bush’s ranch. That would piss you off right? That would become an issue that would make it more likely to get attention and influence people.

So like I said, go ahead. I am not condemning anyone else for going, I’m just not convinced that they are anything more than one giant circle jerk.
