Well, McPeak’s point is that the F-22 is our Spitfire. One good thing that Chamberlain did in delaying the outbreak of war was to give the Brits time to build enough Spitfires. It was a damn close run, but the Spitfires made it possible for the Brits to win the Battle of Britain.

but the Spitfires made it possible for the Brits to win the Battle of Britain.A gross exaggeration, at best. Britain had 32 Hurricane squadrons and 19 Spitfire squadrons during the Battle of Britain. Hurricanes accounted for more aerial kills than all other RAF defenses combined.

But unfortunately, the Raptor cannot be built in WWII quantities in such a short time span, because it is so highly engineered and sophisticated. The USAF will lose the next air war with its current aircraft fleet, going up against the VVS and PLAAF simultaneously.
