- Why do we need to increase spending on health care by at least $1.6 trillion and steal prosperity from our children and grandchildren when we spend nearly twice per person what other industrialized nations spend on health care?
- What programs will you cut and whose taxes will you raise to pay for health-care reform?
- What earmarks or pet projects that you have sponsored will you sacrifice to help finance the cost of health-care reform?
- Will you vote for a public option that requires taxpayer-funded abortion?
- If the public option is so wonderful, will you lead by example and vote for a plan to enroll you and your family in the public option?
- Will you vote for a plan that will allow a board of politicians and bureaucrats to override decisions made by you and your doctor?
- If you support a "comparative effectiveness" board, what qualifies you, as a politician, to practice medicine? Have you delivered health care to a single person, much less entire classes of people you claim to represent, such as the poor, the uninsured, or children?
- How will a government-run public option perform better than other failing government programs, such as Medicare, Medicaid, and Indian Health Care?
- If increasing spending on health care was the solution, why hasn't it worked yet?
- Are you more committed to doing reform right or quickly? Would you consider backing a thoughtful alternative to the public option? If so, which one?

Let’s draft this guy for President in 2012. There hasn’t been such a straight talker in the Senate since Jesse Helms.

I’m wondering if there is any connection between the proposed health care bill and the General Motors/Chrysler buyout.
The automobile workers and retirees get full medical coverage. The cost is in the millions, maybe more. If everyone is required to get government health insurance, wouldn’t that get the unions and GM off the hook?

The way I read it, the option of a Health Savings Account coupled with a higher-deductible high-coverage plan will no longer be available....which is a shame, it’s the best plan out there, and I can tell you from experience, it’s great.

Ive introduced a bill along with Sen. Richard Burr (R., N.C.) and Reps. Paul Ryan (R., Wisc.) and Devin Nunes (R., Calif.) called the Patients Choice Act that guarantees coverage and choice for every American without raising taxes or increasing spending. In fact, our bill will save taxpayers at least $70 billion. But, Senator, Dr, Coburn, we can't have that! With fewer individuals dependent on government, we liberals will lose votes! We who know better will not be in control of their lives!< /leftist response >

I honestly believe that SOME of the very large corporations (GM,GE etc) are very much behind the so-called ‘health care’ reform.....
To: pkajj
Yep. ‘Bout time Oklahoma had a President and about time the United States gets a real one.
I’d be very surpirsed though if he would run. I’d like to be wrong though. The man is accompoished in business, medicine and now government (notice I didn’t say politics because I dont’ consider him a politican but rather a Statesman).
I’d like to see this get interesting.
Next president inherits a crap storm though. It will be every bit as bad of a divided nation as Lincoln inherited. Not only divided but corrupted and bankrupt.

The automobile workers and retirees get full medical coverage. The cost is in the millions, maybe more. If everyone is required to get government health insurance, wouldnt that get the unions and GM off the hook? Good question! I remembered hearing something about union exemption and I searched -- but all I found was a question: Help Ask Questions About National Healthcare that Need Answers
3) Is it true that Unions are exempt from participating in the proposed healthcare system? (See HR 3200 page 53, Rules of Construction, which in effect says that collective bargaining agreements will be honored. That is, unions get to keep their own healthcare plans.) Like the teachers union (AFT), service workers (SEIU), hospital workers, carpenters, brick layers (BAC), Teamsters, AFL-CIO, electrical workers (IBEW), office and professional workers (OPEIU), auto workers (UAW), food workers ((UFCW)), flight attendants (AFA), municipal employees (AFSCME), screen actors (SAG) and other unions? See list of more unions - http://www.union-organizing.com/unions.html . No ambiguous answers please. Why would dozens of large Unions with millions of members be exempt from participation in the proposed healthcare system if their participation would lower the costs for all?
Something I've been wondering about is, if federal officials are exempt and unions are exempt (and -- by some accounts -- federal employees are exempt), who is going to be running their "alternative" plan? Or do they just get carte blanc and the gov't (read: taxpayers) will pay for whatever they want? Will some sort of private insurer be left to handle them?
