Unless the4 person being compared to Hitler does an undeniably Hitlerian thing (like threatening to wipe th Jews from the map. See: the President of Iran), ANY, and I mean ANY comparison to Hitler works against the one who is making the comparison and NOT the one being compared

Argumentum ad Hitlerum is quickly becoming a formal entity that describes as childish any person who, in the absence of better reasoning, resorts to comparing someone she hates with Hitler

I´d rather have FreeRepublic veto child-like posts who use Argumentum ad Hitlerum

Sometimes Argumentum ad Hitlerum is apropos.

When it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, then it is logical to assume that you are dealing with a duck.

Some would call that Argumentum ad Ducktum and call it a logical fallacy.

Perhaps you would prefer Agumentum ad Stalinum?

Um, yeah, did you read the article? No one is saying that he will try to kill 6 million people. All we are saying is that there are several comparisons to be made between the early parts of Obama’s leadership role and Hitler’s leadership role. Its easily researchable.

Automaker takeover. Taking over of banks. Belief in population control. Green movement. Playing on people’s fears to gain power. Hope. Change. Autobiography before success. Am I missing anything here? I’m sure I am.

Good point. It does come across as silly and childish. If somebody has an argument to make, it's more convincing if they don't automatically reach for Hitler analogies.

One big problem with this "Obama is a racist, Hitler was a racist, Obama equals Hitler" approach is that a lot of Americans in history have been "racists" by today's standards. Were they all Hitlers? That's an awful lot of Hitlers running around. Some of them have even been president.
