Eunice Kennedy Shriver, the 86-year-old sister of President John F. Kennedy, who founded the Special Olympics and championed the rights of the mentally retarded, has been hospitalized. A spokesman said Friday that Shriver's family was at her side at a Massachusetts hospitla.
Shriver is also the sister of Sen. Edward Kennedy and the mother-in-law of California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
It was no immediately clear what ailment, if any, was affecting her. It was also not immediate clear how long Shriver has been hospitalized.
Shriver is also the sister of Sen. Edward Kennedy and the mother-in-law of California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who said in June that she was recovering from a series of strokes.
Eunice Shriver is credited with transforming America's view of the mentally disabled from institutionalized patients to that of friends, neighbors and athletes. Her efforts were inspired in part by the struggles of her retarded sister, Rosemary. She founded the Special Olympics in 1968.
Eunice Shriver is a very good person, though I dislike most of her relatives, she should not be lumped in with the rest of them. And Special Olympics is an exceptional good for society.
She’s at Cape Cod Hospital.
Very well said. I will add my dittos. She doesn’t deserve our disdain or contempt.
RM was very little of a problem, except in image wise, which of course is everything to a Kennedy. They didn’t care about RM, they cared about themselves.
Irish American Caligulas.
Who would stick with the Kennedys all those years? How bought do you have to be? The Kennedy women, Shriver too are willing accomplices in the Kennedy evil and the horrific damage that satanic family has done.
...and teddie (carwash) kennedy languishes on and on and on..
I know someone that spiral fractured his femur and had himself driven to Boston to avoid CC hospital.
It’s kind of one of those hospitals big enough to do everything, but nothing well.
The place is filthy with lacksadaisical cleaning staff spraying layer upon sticky layer of detergent upon dirt. Touching anything is like touching warm taffy.
I wouldn’t bring my dog there.
My son is involved with Special Olympics as a coach. It is a worthwhile organization. To the Olympians who take part, it is one of the highlights of their year! Bless her for her part in establishing it.
I think the Kennedy family will be attending two funerals within the next few weeks.
They had a sister that was made to have a lobotomy and basically became retarded. She was saying things that put the rest of the Kennedys in a bad light and they just “couldn’t afford” that. Maybe this Kennedy was trying to help retarded people partly because of what was done to her sister.
At least she did something. Many who are born into a privileged life do nothing but indulge themselves. The concept of noblesse oblige is completely lost on them.
The news is not good today. Eunice is critical.
I pray for the grace of a happy death for her.
Even when the “children” are all adults, to lose your mother is very hard. The impact of my own mother’s death at 88 surprised me as it was not sudden and I felt that I was prepared for it. I too am praying for her and all of those who love her.
