A Japanese commentator just two weeks ago made a very small comment in an article that otherwise was not heavily noticed (except maybe by yours truly here in Japan!), and it was never picked up widely, but he is a very good, external observer of American culture and politics and history, and he said that what with the warp speed Obama is doing some of these things, he would a) engender a backlash, and b) it will in fact turn to violence and will pit camps of socialists and non-socialist, free market people against each other, and the US is in for a time of turmoil.

I am pretty sure it was Hidaka-san, of the Hoover Institute. We may well see it formulating; both he in his writing, and I for that matter, did not expect it would happen so soon, though. I figured one or two years into Obama Administration, but seven months is pretty eye opening.
