Obama sends stimulus aid to foreign firms (Grants impel electric cars)
The Washington Times ^ | August 6, 2009 | Jerry Seper

Nearly half of the $2.4 billion in federal grant money awarded Wednesday to stimulate the U.S. economy and boost the production of hybrid and electric vehicles went to six companies with ties to places as far away as Russia, China, South Korea and France.

President Obama announced the grants during a visit to Indiana and said the funds would create domestic jobs and instigate more "green" manufacturing in the United States. But because so few American companies have the necessary technology, much of the money will initially go toward manufacturing electric vehicle batteries overseas.

Three grants went to General Motors Corp., one for $105.9 million to help produce high-volume battery packs for the GM Volt automobile. But cells for the packs will be built in South Korea and by "other cell providers to be named."

The largest single grant, for $299.2 million, went to Johnson Controls Inc. for the production of nickel-cobalt-metal battery cells and packs at plants it plans to build in Holland, Mich., and Lebanon, Ore. Johnson has partnered with Saft Advanced Power Solutions LLC, a French company, to develop the batteries. Saft, which makes its batteries in France, also won a separate $95.5 million grant.

Excellent question, seems the representation went out the window with the leftist controlled government.

So, where does Obama propose everyone plug in all these electric cars?
our crumbling electric infrastructure?

I guess we can all look forward to rolling brownouts as commuters come home from work and plug their cars in.

Boy are they going to be suprized when they get their cap and trade adjusted electric bill...

A lot of truth to that. In the ever increasing wind energy states, when the wind stops blowing everyone will have to stop driving.

Please help me out here. I’m not supposed to use regular light bulbs because of energy consumption, but I am supposed to drive an electric car. Is this supposed to make sense? Or does obama think people aren’t going to notice?

No one is quite sure how many billions of the bank ‘bailout’ went overseas. I’ve read estimates of over $100 billion. This is cronyism on an international scale. These supposed representatives are funneling money worldwide. After taking it from Americans.

You're supposed to use compact flourescents and poison the earth with a fine coat of mercury.

Ah, I see. Green. Expend all sorts of fuel to bring these battery-powered cars here, then we can throw piles of expended batteries into our own landfills where they will compost themselves into water vapor? The only green here is the piles being exported from our economy.

"Hah! A fancy golf cart."

Imagine getting creamed in that by a guy (like me) speeding through a stop sign in his F250... Heck, I might not even know i hit something, just a pothole...

"You're supposed to use compact flourescents and poison the earth with a fine coat of mercury. "

Now that's just plain ridiculous.

You can say we've been putting a fine coat of lead poison on the earth from all the lead on the bottom of incandescent bulbs too.

The mercury in a florescent bulb is about as dangerous and polluting as a shovel full of dirt.
